I really really want an aftermarket exhaust
The question is...what kind to get for the best sound and the best value? I know the SLP LoudMouth exhaust sounds sweet, that's what fast98gtp has on his, and I've heard it. I just want to hear from some others who have different exhausts...I want loud, but not annoying. That throaty burble that makes your adrenaline rush. Anyone got Flowmasters, Borla, Dynomax, or anything else? Whatever I get, I want to take the cat off (legal on cars 5 years old or older...and mine's 5
) and replace the u-bend at the very least.Oh, and I DEFINITELY want to avoid that weedeater-on-speed sound that is so common on the rice rockets. Any advice?

My personal preference is the GMPP exhaust, but I'm more conservative when it comes to the exhaust note. It's got a nice low rumble and is not too loud until you jump on it. If you like the LoudMouths this will probably be too quiet for your tastes.
The whole system is polished stainless steel. You can even get it at your local GM dealer, Part#12498617. It was $550 with shipping at my local dealer. Online, GM parts direct sells it for $419, but charges around $125 for shipping. Some have complained about them...maybe some other GM online parts dealer may sell it for cheaper. My only gripe would be that the tips are ugly...but your tastes may vary. A lot of people who get the GMPP swap the tips. The cheapest option would be to have an exhaust shop make one for you. $200-$400 depending on what you want. If you go this route find someone who has had work done there before. I would hate for you to spend that kind of money and not be happy with what you get. Happy hunting |

Re: I really really want an aftermarket exhaust
GTPGirl, based on what happened to a budy of mine 2 weekends ago I would tell you to stay with the OEM. He has a nice tunned integra. He has Borla installed. The state troopers would not leave him alone for a sec. If you keep your car sound as low as possible you will not draw uneeded attention. I just installed the SLP headers and left the OEM exahust. I do not need State Trooper all over me every time I rev the car on an intersection.

Re: Re: I really really want an aftermarket exhaust
I think stock tips have saved me from getting harassed by pigs. I have even revved past a cop with a cutout and not had problems. Then again I could just be getting a little luck...
I have had the following exhaust systems: - Stock everything = Way too quiet. - Stock pipes + cat with Magnaflow mufflers = Sounded better but still was very quiet. - Stock pipes + cat, Magnaflows + resonator removed = The same but with more drone and raspy sounds. - Stock pipes + cat, Magnaflows, and a cutout right before the Ysplit = Sounded like butt.(Got rid of the cutout quickly) - SLP Headers(wrapped) + Cat, no res, magnaflows, 2.5" piping to the Ysplit = Deeper and much louder. - Headers, no Cat or Res, full 2.5" exhaust, magnaflows = Slightly more throaty and louder but not much different going from a highflo cat to no cat. Hope that info helps somebody. |

Jeff: The point here is what she is willing to resist from pigs to have a louder car. Cause my bud did not care, in my case the farther the pigs are better

Re: I really really want an aftermarket exhaust
Well, I do have an advantage...our police chief is one of my really close friends (he's only 28) and if I meet him on the highway and I'm doing 70 in a 55, the most he's ever done is shake his finger at me. I'm also friends with all the state troopers around here (We only have 3 in this county, and it's the largest county in the state. Go figure. Anyway, I'm friends with all of 'em). The only worry I have are Scottsboro City or County cops...the most I've ever gotten from a county was bluelighted for doing 74 in a 55. So I think I'm pretty safe from the pigs. Hey, our police chief even lets us drag on the street, as long as it's late at night and there's no traffic.

Re: I really really want an aftermarket exhaust
Hey, just because I'm friends with them doesn't mean I don't recognize them for what they are! (Tip: Even if you ARE friends with the police chief, don't yell "I smell bacon!" when he pulls up in the parking lot where you work...lol)

Re: I really really want an aftermarket exhaust
you will not get a ticket for having an aftermarket exhaust....as long as it has the required mufflers it will be imposible for them to write you a ticket that you can't fight in court.
and a GTP with 3" pipes and no Mufflers still isnt that loud that will get you noticed by the police! BTW: I have had Borla and loved it Plan on putting one on my 2003 now |

Re: I really really want an aftermarket exhaust
The ticket is not for the exahust system, if they feel that your car is too noisy they will ticket you for that, if they feel your car is too low or if they feel your tint is to dark they will ticket you. That is why they are pigs. Instead of being chasing bad guys they are bothering tax payers.

Re: I really really want an aftermarket exhaust
for the girl asking the question, I have flowmaster 60 delta series mufflers and they sound like a V-8 at idle and on the gas it sounds good, its pretty loud from what the neighboors say and inside its not that bad at all, only between 1600 at 1800 Rpms its really low tone inside the car, highway driving it wont drive you insane. just FYI
ohhyeah got it for 200 dollars. Mufflers and "Y" pipe replaced to 2.5" pipe
