1999 Grand am GT (Battery light)
My battery light (with chiming sound) is coming on. I took it to Auto Zone and they checked the battery, (it's running on 12 volts)
He checked the alternator, it's running on 3 amps (volts??) The machine indicated to check alternator wires. Is it more than likely the wires or the plugs to the altenator or is it the alternator itself? I don't trust a machine to give me an accurate reading. All of my dashboard lights are dim..I don't want to break down somewhere.

Check the serpentine belt to make sure it is tight. If is is, replace the altenator, looks like it is not charging, it should be at 13.5 volts.

Re: 1999 Grand am GT (Battery light)
When he was checking the alternator, I thought I saw 11.5/12 volts -3.5 amps. Thanks for the reply, I will check the serpentine belt.
