01 Escape roaring noise

We have an 01 Escape 4x4 that makes a very noticable roaring noise while driving. Seems to be more noticable when going into turns at speeds of 30mph or better. Thought it was a tire issue but its not. Ford told me about a year ago that they all did this and there was not a recall because it was not hurting anything. They were aware of the problem though.

Anyone know what this is?

it could be the imfamous 'moosing' problem, due to the IAC valve. Does it sound like a foghorn coming out from underneath the hood?
