95 Z-28 Supercharged LT1

Dude in the club is building a blower motor out of a 95 LT1. The problem, well I think, is that he's putting 9.2:1 pistons in it and he's going to be pumping 14psi into it on 93 gas. Red light flashed above my head. When I build a superchared engine and I'm going with that much boost I won't go with anything higer than 8.5 and that's pushing it. Usualy 8.1 is what I'll go with. Anyway I said something to him about it and he tried to tell me I didn't know what I was talking about. So...can I get some inputs on this? Thanks.

Re: 95 Z-28 Supercharged LT1

well first off, hes disagreeing with you, thats a red flag right there, i mean come no, im the only one who can get away with that but yeah, with 14lbs of boost i would run 8.5 to 8.7 compression. but if hes going 9.2 compression he could get away with 8-10lbs boost. also it does depend alot on cam selection. so he might have a cam that has enough overlap to get away with the high compression and high boost.

9.2:1 is def high for 14psi of boost but not impossible. It can be done and be reliable but requires very good air charge cooling and most def some race gas. Also 9.2:! pistons are based on what CC chamber heads vs. what he is going to use cause he may drop compression with a larger CC head than what that psitons CR is based on.

Re: 95 Z-28 Supercharged LT1

Re: 95 Z-28 Supercharged LT1

Well static is the compression of the cylinder taking into acount the pistons, size of the combustion chamber, and gasket thickness. As aposed to what the piston manufacturer says it will be with a certain size combustion chamber. It's also the compression before you dump a whole lot of atmosphere into your engine.
