stereo went out

I first had this problem in December, I went out to my car, turned it on, tried to turn on the radio and nothing. The stereo has power, it displays stations and runs cd's, but i get nothing through the speakers. Later that day i tried it again and it came on. Recently though its been going out for days and sometimes it will come on for about a minute then it will make a kind of pop noise and just stop. I've noticed the only times it comes on is if the volume is all the way down and turned off before the car is started, then i start the car (with the air off), and sometimes i can turn the stereo on and turn up the volume and it will work. Do you have any ideas about this at all?

sounds like some loose wires to me. Recheck the wiring if its an aftermarket radio.

I had similar problems. The power lead to one of my amps had a small amount of exposed wire at the connector. It would touch the frame and snap, crackle, and pop, no tunes. I found the offending wire, applied a small amount of electrical tape, and voila! Tunes.

i do want to add depending on your familiarity with working on exposed wires you may want to unplug your battery just incase you touch a live wire and zap the hell outa yourself. Or worse, cause a short somewhere else in the wiring and fry a few fuses.

I sure dont want to ever have that happen.

well its kinda weird that this would happen now, the stereo has been in the car for years with no problems. but i'll hafta go out there and check all the wires i guess
