How much does this suck

Ok, so I just had to complain to someone...As some of you may or maynot know, One of my rims got a huge dent in it and the nobody would mount a tire onto it for me. So, I am in the process of looking for a new one...unfortunantly I am broke, so I was looking for one for a cheaper price. Being that I could only find them for around 400+. Long story short, my aunt lends me some money, but not soon enough. Spring break started yesterday, so I needed to drive the 190 miles home from college. I would have taken the bus, but I need my car down here for emergencies and to get to work, so I can make some money and pay her back. Anyway, so it came down to me driving home on the full size doughnut POS skinny spare tire we have. Well this had already been used before...as I have had a few flat tires due to bad alignment, so it already had about 70 miles on it. Well last night we start the adventure, only going 50mph. Every highway had 65mph speed limits. So I am driving my vr4 home with cruise control set at 50, listening intently to any noise produced by my spare, with my emergency flashers on, getting past by EVERYTHING(i mean buses, minivans, 18-wheelers...everything) I pulled over every 40 miles or so to check the wear on the spare. Well to keep this short, I did make it, the spare looks fine, I know this wasn't the best for my AWD, but I really didn't have any options...but yeah, the spare made it and now has 250-300 miles on it in total and still has tread (do I now hold some new record...?). Only problem was that the ride which usually takes 2 hours and 20 mins took 4 and a half hours. IT SUCKED! I was always so tempted to drop it into 3rd and just get on the gas, as I havn't had the opportunity to since january. I miss that in your seat feeling of WOT so bad!

Re: How much does this suck

Damn that really does suck. I think it would drive me insane. I don't like getting passed by things, and as soon as something does I gotta speed up and fly past it. Kudos to you for being able to take it. And at least now you can get a new rim. I've never had to drive on the spare before. When I smoked my stock rim on a curb, I had to drive around with a stock Ford Probe rim for a while. But yeah, that's harsh. Worse thing that ever happened to me that was sort of like that was I had to drive about 200 miles with a bad wheel bearing =\

Re: How much does this suck

Damn bro, that really sucks! How'd your rim get bent? I drove on a spare once but was too scared to go over 35. LOL And man, I thought spare tires only had about a hundred miles on it...guess I was wrong. But yeah, at least you'll be getting some new ones now. Final thought...I'm in college too so I'm there with you with the whole broke deal. Our spring break just started as well and it sucks to be broke around this time....

Re: How much does this suck

I hoped a curb doing 70 or so mph. I don't recommend it. It's the only time I've managed to lock my ABS up on the vr4.
I took the spare up to 65 or 70 without realizing it a few times the first time I used it. But this time I stayed right at 50, because that was the max speed stated on the side of the spare. But it didn't say how long it could go...it just says for temporary use. I figure temporary is all a matter of opinion...

Re: How much does this suck

Yeah, but I did try and check it pretty often, and honestly the tread really didn't wear down much at all. On a good note...I did get the best gas mileage EVER. I think if I had kept it up through the whole tank, I would have cleared 500 miles on one tank, beating my previous best of 360.

Re: How much does this suck

The 18inch 6 spoke chrome vr4 rims I think they are the same 95-99. I've put up a few posts, but no such luck yet. Nesryn pointed me to a site where I found some for 400 bucks, but I can't really justify paying that much for another heavy chrome rim. At that point I'd rather just spend a grand and get some lighter rims. (of course on the other hand...I don't really have a grand to spend)

Re: How much does this suck

wow, I am definantly interested if you would sell one for under 350. My 2 concerns are A) where are you located..so shipping isn't another 500, I might be able to drive out and meet you somewhere.
B) please keep me updated. I almost folded and bought the 400 dollar one today...I NEEEDDDDD one soon, I am going back to school on the 12th, and need a working rim..as I doubt my donut will make it another 190 miles.
Please keep me posted...and GOOD luck with the bidding

...a tip from my experience, don't bid now, rather remember when the bidding ends, and go online when there is about 1-2 mins left, then place your bid. Ebay emails all bidders when they are out bid, so if you bid now you essentially are just driving up the price of the rim. If you wait until the last minute, then outbid the other bidders, they never have a chance to know what hit them. That way you avoid the bidding war and if you outbid them there, you win and save the cost of competition.

Sorry to hear you haven't gotten a rim for it yet. I'd ship you off one of my old 17s if you were running that size.

Hope you and azn both get what you guys need.

Iam located in southeast Iowa and if i read ur profile right ur pretty far away from me, since your in Pensylvania. But like u said that's what i usual do when i bid but thier's 5 other people bidding on these rims and my chances are not looking so good. I should know by wensday. I'll keep ya posted.

Re: How much does this suck

Yogs, I appreciate the good will, thanx anyway.
Azn Thanks alot, yeah we are pretty far away, that doesn't look good for shipping. But like I said, I'm desperate. Even if it doesn't work out, I really appreciate it. But good luck

Re: How much does this suck

igov, i just recently got a couple of new rims, stock 18, 6 spoke chrome. I'd be willing to sale you the one i took off that is in decent condition to get you buy if you'd like. It's a little beat up, but it's not bent, just scratched and chipped. I sale it cheap so just give me a yell. I had planned on keeping it as a spare just incase I had one blow, but if you need it give me a yell.
