Would it fit?

Would a Cadillac big block fit in a '79 Camaro if it is already set up for an Oldsmobile big block? What I mean is, would the engine mounts need to be relocated or changed. Could I use the same tranny?

I found out that the engine in my Camaro is an Olds 350. Needless to say, I am disappointed. 160 hp on a good day- 220lbs feet of torque.

I have an old Caddy engine sitting in the corner of the shop. I'm not sure if it's a 472 or a 501. I've never seen something like that in a Camaro before. I would like to see what it could do with that kind of power and torque. From what I see on the web, they are easier to find parts for than an Olds. Not to mention that they make more power, or CAN make more power quite easily.

Thoughts and opinions? Maybe someone can point me in the right direction for info?

Thanks, B

Re: Would it fit?

If that's what you want to do then go for it. However; I don't believe that big block caddy will easily fit in you camaro..might since there is some room in there but it will be tight. An olds/caddy/pontiac small block is almost the size of a big block chevy so you deffinatly will have to move the mounts and possibly do some shaving. No for an opinion, go with a chevy big block if your going that route. The caddy big block did have some power and torque, but it wasn't meant for what you're wanting it for. It was mostly bottom to mid range power. And as big as that engine is it only has two bolt mains. You can get some good power out of it, but it's probably not going to be worth the effort. If your willing to dump a lot of money into it to strenghen the block then yeah go for it, I'm sure you could easily get 800hp out of it, but you'll need to have it machined for four bolt mains and find the caps, and have the block shot peened and maginfluxed. Good luck though.
