Alright, here's my plan for my bird:
put a 302 HO in place of the 5.0, 3" headers and exhaust, a supercharger, new injectors and a throttle body, a bigger alternator, lift the back, drop the front, racing slicks on the back and something tight in the front, replace all seals and gaskets ( some of mine leak),and i was thinking about boring out the 302 to about 315. one thing that i'm not sure about is whether 3" exhaust/headers will be enough for the HO. I was also gonna get a turbo coupe hood and try to convert the automatic to a manual. Anyways, i was just looking for general feedback if anyone thinks any part of my plan is flawed or i should add something to the list. Once i get some cosmetics done on it, i'll post some before and after pictures. Thanks for any feedback!!! |

Re: 305 HO and other mods
Stroke that engine and make more low end torque. Our heavy birds need it. You won't see 315ci from a 302. 306 is about as big as you want to bore. 315 is about .090 over and you'll have a sheet of paper between your pistons and the water jacket. 1 5/8 primaries on your headers should be plenty. 2 1/2 on the pipes will be adequate if you go true duals. If you run a 2-1-2 you would run 2 1/2 into 3 1/2 into 2 1/2. Open up the intake to 4". New heads. The heads on a 302 don't flow for shit. AFR185's if you plan on a blower. If not, AFR165's will be as large as you would want. Get a cam custom ground for what your engine will need if you blow it. Roller rockers and roller lifters. You would need a roller block. The 302's from 88 prior are for solid lifter blocks but depends on what you plan you may need the solid lifters for higher RPM's. Get rid of the fan and go electric. Get a case of Motrin for the pedal and tranny swap. If you stay with an auto, you'll need to make that AOD bulletproof and a larger stall converter. 3.73 gears, at least 3.55's.

Re: 305 HO and other mods
Alright thanks. I don't plan to do the swap any time soon... just a goal for the future.

Re: 305 HO and other mods
as far as lifts and drops, do you have any reccomendations? I planned on a 1.5" lift in the back, but i'm not sure what to do with the front, and i don't know what rims/tires i should put on because i haven't lookd into it

Re: 305 HO and other mods
Personal opinion, if you do anything, take the front and rear down 1 to 1 1/2 and put on larger sway bars. Birds look good lowered, not slammed, with 17" rims. If you stroke it, do a 331. A 347 tends to be not as durable in the long run.
