Re: roll cage

depends on the kind of cage. no matter what the back welds into the rear-deck right behind the backseats. on the b4c, there werent any points that went more forward than the front seat. made an arc that went along the roof line and welded in on the floor where the back seats would be. on a drag cage the front goes into the floor below the dash around the feet in addition to the sides.

Re: roll cage

yeah the 10 point goes all the way around. rear-deck, sides, and floor. make sure you get chrome-moly and i dont think its that hard. just gutting the interior and a little grinding before you weld. the hardest part is determining all the angles and cutting the pipe. of course thats if you do it yourself. i think that there are kits where all the pipe is pre-cut, you just have to figure the angle and weld em in...

Re: roll cage

I'm real new here on the forum but if you are racing NHRA you may or may not need 10 point cage to run 10.99 or quicker. Depends on how car is built.
If you are thinking of putting in yourself you may want to 'rethink' a little. You need a 160 amp (minimum) mig welder and you need to know how to get a good weld in all sorts of positions as there aren't any that are flat. Also, those 'pre-cut' kits will require a fair amount of cutting/fitting and you need the equipment/expertice to do this.
Finally, as one who has worked in chassis shops, if you are going to get it done professionally, figure about $100 per point.
Study the rule book carefully and see if if the much less expensive 6 pt. bar won't work for you instead of a cage.....

Re: roll cage

yea, im gonna need atleast an 8 point, my goal isto get into the 10s but i dont think im gonna be runnin 10s right away os i was jus think about goin with the 8 point, and later on if i make it there i can convert to a 10, ive been plannin on gettin a welder here for a while, the only way to learn is to try, well thats how i look at it, ive basically started with a bone stock 85 camaro with a 6 cyl 5 speed, i knew nothin about camaros but i learned by fixing things myself and learning from my dad, right b4 i pulled the 350 out i was already down to 13s, so this will be a good learning experience
