I'm having big-time problems with masking interior. I was trying to mask the middle of the seats to paint it red. When I pulled the masking tape off (although it's not Tamiya, but very similar. Not much stronger) the whole portion of paint stripped off
What shall I use to mask the parts which are painted with enamel colors (Revell). Is steady hand and brush the only way? |

Re: Mask-tape enamel colors
I use the blue painters masking tape and it works pretty well. Your other options are Bare Metal Foil ( I use the balsk because thats about all its good for ) or you could try one of the liquid masking solutions that you brush on an let dry.
Also it helps if when you pull the tape off don't pull it straight up but to the side |

Metal foil? I'll give it a try.
I apply the masking tape and then cut out the pieces that are going to be airbrushed. But if the paint under the tape is just a little cutted it just fall off, when you pull the tape. |

Use some primer before your first paint. It will make your paint adhere much more.
I do this often with humbrol paints (enamels) and tamiya masking tape and I had never any problems.

I don't experiance any problems with masking the body (primed and 5 times coated including clear coat).
Problems occurs when painting interior. Although I'm not using any primer on parts like exhaust, interior, seats, ... Will plastic primer for Automotive paint do the job OK? So, plastic primer and then Enamel paint. |

Re: Mask-tape enamel colors
That should work , body or interior the process is the same. I would think its peeling because yuo either didn't prime it or it was not clean before you painted it

Yes. That's true. I wasn't sanding the interior or even washed it in soapy water. Just brush and enamel paint.
I don't use Tamiya masking tape (we don't have dealer for Tamiya) but I use similar, not much stronger masking tape. @D.J.: Končno si se sem primaju. [local Slovene talking ]

Priming with plastic primer before even painting with enamel did the job.
Thanks! |
