BODY
It's gonna be a slow build ... juggling my full time work, part-time study and this hobby. This is likely to be a "box-stock" project. I usually get to do it only on the weekends (a Saturday or a Sunday), and only get to do painting if that weekend is a warm sunny day. I feel lucky as I got to do the final coat of spraying painting the body on a very freaking hot sunny afternoon, last Sunday. Here is the body spray painted with Tamiya TS-50 Mica Blue. 1) Mr Surfacer 1200 - 1st mist coat 2) Mr Surfacer 1200 - 2nd coat 3) Tamiya TS-50 Mica Blue - 1st mist coat 4) Tamiya TS-50 Mica Blue - 2nd coat 5) Tamiya TS-50 Mica Blue - 3rd coat 6) Tamiya TS-50 Mica Blue - 4th thicker coat I used the white "magic sponge" (which has become available in recent years in the supermarket for cleaning stubborn stains) which I found to be equivalent to being a fine rubbing compound for cleaning any dust particles in-between coats. I find it better because there are no rubbing compound stains to remove which become stuck in the panel lines.  In my first model car project I never clear coated. So I plan to clear coat this project for experience. Tentative plans: 7) Rub it down using white magic sponger or 2000 rubbing compound. 8) Paint the side signal lights 9) Tamiya Clear Coat 10) 2000 rubbing compound 11) Paint the semi-gloss black areas (window frames and the "front bottom part") 12) Decals 13) Tamiya polishing wax Last edited by shieldwulf; 04-03-2004 at 10:35 PM.

man im doing the same thing, and right now it isn't looking even close to that, mines all orange peely and shit and to top it all off i had to order another thing of paint, not sure i how i ran our of the first can...
great job, that paint is flawless!

A SHOT IN THE FOOT
Nightmare blunders that will send shivers to any modeler --- GLUE SPILL on almost completed paint job! First, I felt that some of seam lines between the front and rear bumpers to the main body has small little dried glue globs that came from the inside. So I used a sharp pen knife to slowly remove them. Everything is not too bad initially, all I need is to resand these areas to smoothen these regions caused by the pen knife scratches before I respray with body paint. But the the seam between the hood cover and the front "face" came loose. So I used styrene glue to glue it back on. Guess what? I didn't realised it until I saw a big bloob of styrene glue went over my hand and it smacked right down onto the finished paint body on the area above the front left wheel. Another small amt went onto my last finger and as I panicked to assess the damage, that finger went on to touch the corner area of the left panel at the left door. Therefore, I have to let the glue dry before I sanded these areas. What you see now are "nice paint job" and "nice sand job" combined  ... I'm going for a walk.

NISMO WHEELS
Box stock Nismo wheels as "optional" parts in the box for the V-Spec II. 1) Mr Surfacer 1200 - 1st mist coat 2) Mr Surfacer 1200 - 2nd coat 3) Light sand off any imperfections and dust particles 4) Tamiya TS-26 Pure White - 1st mist coat 5) Tamiya TS-26 Pure White - 2nd coat 6) Tamiya TS-26 Pure White - 3rd "helluva" thick coat ... and let it dry in my glass cabinet for the next 100 years.  It looks smooth. I wonder if I should still polish it. Those small blobs that hold the wheels to the chopstick are blue tacks. Blue tacks are great cheap "holders" that are also easy to remove without peeling off anything. Simply remold them to reuse until they have too much paint to remain sticky. But if I require precise "holding" small objects in order to make sure it doesn't accidentally cover any areas that are to be painted, I would use a double-sided tape.
