'99 GTP Thermometer probs

Yeah, I'm back... this time in a '99 GTP Coupe. The '97 kinda got totalled...Ford F-350 pulled out in front of me. Yeah. Fun. Still got the avatar of my '97, but only cause I haven't made pictures of my '99 yet.

Anyway, the climate control, where it displays the external temperature, is messed up. For example, it was around 75 degrees outside today, but my car was showing 44. Sometimes it works right, and displays the correct temperature, but most times it doesn't. Anyone else had this problem, and if you did, was it expensive to fix?

Re: '99 GTP Thermometer probs

The sensor is on the left front side of the car, infront of the radiator.

If your standing infront of the car. On the 99's you might have to take off that plastic part to see it.

Should be a $12 fix, sorry dont have the part number

Re: '99 GTP Thermometer probs

99 have a lot of good stuff. Before spending the $12.00 go and check that all the cables from and too the connector are properly installed and clean. If sometimes it works could be a loose wire

Re: '99 GTP Thermometer probs

I shorted out my sensor and had the same problem. In 100+ deg heat it would read around 44 and ofcourse the air conditioning didnt work.

Go get a new sensor

Go get a new sensor or make sure the sensor is plugged in. I know there was some girl on here before that had body work done and they disconnected the sensor and that was the only problem

Re: '99 GTP Thermometer probs

Thanks y'all...I probably could have took the car to the dealership where my dad used to work, and had this fixed, but it sounds like a pretty cheap, simple fix, so I think I'll just handle it myself. Of course, they guy at Advance the other night seemed shocked that I was going to install my own wiper blades, so he'd really be shocked about me doing this.

Re: '99 GTP Thermometer probs

Lol, if I could just get my best friend (whom I've liked for a LONG time) to agree with you. I always thought a guy would like having a girl like that, but apparently not him. *Shrug* Oh well, I enjoy doing it.

Re: '99 GTP Thermometer probs

Well, got my ambient air sensor...cost me $6.16. Got it put on today...seems to have solved my thermometer probs. Took all of five minutes to change it...turns out it was easier to reach up from underneath than to go in from the top.

Re: '99 GTP Thermometer probs

Dealership. It's a dealer-only part, so they said at Advance. But my dad used to work at a Chevrolet dealership in Fort Payne, so I get my parts at cost. I think retail was only a little over 8 bucks, so still not too bad.
