Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3/BF Goodridge G-Force KDW2

Can I get your opinions? Although I don't need a new set yet, I am starting to look for what I want my next set of tires to be. It does rain alot here in the winter and spring. Basically, I need wet and dry traction. Since it hardly snows (once every few years maybe), I am not worried about that too much. I don't want to sacrifice a lot dry traction for wet traction, I am looking for a tire with very good wet and dry traction. I have heard and read good things about two tires in my research: the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 ($133/tire) and the BF Goodrich G-Force T/A KDW 2 ($139/tire). Have any of you had any exprience with either of these, also, if there are any other tires that will perform comperable (or better) that you'd recommend? I know that the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 is a max performance summer tire, as was the Kuhmo Ecsta MX you recommended above ($93/tire). The BF Goodrich G-Force T/A KDW 2 is techincally a "ultra high performace summer tire," though I heard better things about the goodyear and BF goodrich tire. The Kuhmo MX didn't sound bad for the price, but from what I heard, the other two seemed to be worth the extra $$ in my opinion. Any thoughts/info on anything I posted would be appericated. Other tire suggestions are welcome too. Thank you.

The Goodyear and the Kumho are both much better for both wet and dry traction. They will wear a bit faster but are going to grip a lot better in the dry/wet. The Goodyear is the best of the three. We put the BFGoodrich in the next lower category since it has a slightly firmer compound and will not provide the same amount of grip at the limit. The Kumho Ecsta MX is darn close and is a great value for a max performance tire. Not as comfortable or quiet as the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 tho.

What is the threadwear rating and the expected life of the 3 tires. I am always weary of Kumho, as I know their Supra 712 tires can vary greatly from tire to tire in handling a lot more than most tires. I have not heard of the problem with the MX though.

If I knew what specific size you were looking at I could get you the tread wear specifics. The Kumho Ecsta Supra 712 comes in a variety of sizes, tread compounds, and speed ratings depending on the size. That's why you will see customer survey results all over the board (they are not always using the same version of the tire).

Oh, I thought I posted the tire size. I guess I only thought I did, lol. My tire size is 205/40/17. I prefer to stick with a Z-rated tire (not that I'll every actually go fast enough to need the rating, but I'd prefer that none the less).

THE 712 IS A GOOD TIRE. YOU COULD ALSO GO FOR THE 711 AND SAVE A LITTLE MONEY AND WEAR LONGER. THE BEST TIRE FOR YOUR NEEDS IS THE DUNLOP 9000. THESE TIRES TRULY SIT DOWN, WET OR DRY. AND I'M NOT TRYING TO SELL YOU SOMETHING.

The BFGoodrich has a 300 AA A rating, the Dunlop Sport 9000 is a 280 AA A, the Goodyear F1 GS-D3 is a 280 AA A, and the Kumho MX is a 220 AA A. It's important to remember that the tread wear number is not a constant across brand lines. Each tire company has a base tire they test against to come up with that number. The Dunlop is a discontinued model in this size and would not be available if you need a replacement tire down the road. It's a great tire but it would be sort of like buying a Betamax Video player. I'd buy a spare in case you need one later.

I have the Goodyear EAGLE F1 GS-D3's on our RSXTypeS. These tires are awesome the wet traction is simply amazing. I am an aggressive driver and have not encountered any problems with them. I have about 8-9000 miles on them and they look like they will last me about 2 more seasons, 3 if I really stretch it.

I am using 225/45/ZR17's on Kosei Racing K1 wheels 7.5"X17" with a +45mm offset. Got them through the Tirerack last year in April. They will be going back on the car sometime this month.

My winter tires are Dunlop M3 Winter Sports 205/55/VR16 mounted on the stock RSX rim (6.5"X16"). They have been great through the winter here in Michigan.

Thanks for the opinions, it gives me some things to think about in temr sof what tire I want next...so, if the trhreadwear rating are not consistent, who long is each of the tires expected life?

JWMAX is selling some Bridgestone Potenza's if you are interested, but I think they are only 17"
