GoodYear GS-D3[Eagle F1)...review

Hey all

After 2-sets of GY Run-flats on my 98' Corvette, I finally wanted
something different and NOT a run-flat. My car is not a daily driver
so I'm fully content running a non-runflat(and no spare).

I looked at numerous reviews of many tires and not just how they
were applied to the C5. GoodYear released this tire last fall 02'.

I compared Kumbo Ecsta MX, Michelin Pilot Sports, Bridgestone
Potenza S-03 Pole Positions, and the Yokahama AVS Sports.

I'm running the stock coupe/vert(97-04) sizes.

Front 245/45-17
Rear 275/40-18

After much back-n-forth, I decided on the GoodYears. Which is
somewhat ironic in the sense the GY RF's are widely hated by
the average performance crowd for the C5 demo.

I purchased mine from Tirerack.com and it's almost impossible to
beat those prices. $880 shipped to my door vs. $1200-1300 for
replacement run-flats. After the install, and about 10-seconds down
the road you realize how loud the run-flats are or these GS-D3's are
very quiet.

MY car has the F45 selective ride dampening system, and the settings
are felt much more with these tires than with the RF's. My car is also
a A4 with 3.42' gears, a Yank SY3500, and a TransGo shift-kit. These
tires have FAR better grip while at a standing still/WOT. Performing
WOT from a roll at between 5mph and 30 was downright scary with
the run-flats as the car would go sideways almost every time. I get
a little wheel spin, and chirps at 1-2 and 2-3 but not where I'd have
to really steady throttle control as to not lose control.

On wet pavement...WOW they really shine. Lot's o-grip. Of course
trying to perform this test can be hazardous to me and my cars'
health.The tread kinda reminds me of the Aquatread design that GY
has had for a while. It's a directional thread that looks really aggressive
too.

I've had these since April, and probably have put on 3000-miles so far
including one 2000 mile Virginia to Florida trip by way of the Blue Ridge
Parkway and a quick detour to 'Tame The Dragon' at Deals Gap, NC/TN.
I've had these at strip once so far and they perform very well there too
for a 'street' tire. I highly recommend them.

I had to write after seeing your Lightning and vette in the driveway. I have a 02 Lightning and a 99 vette conv. Great minds think alike. I will say my Lighting (a few mods) runs like hell ..... scary (under 8k miles). I couldn't part with either one now and the new Mustang is looking good to me to with the HP package when available. I think my wife would go nuts with another toy, but you never know. I'm starting to clue her in that my 99 Cougar needs to be replaced when the baby comes in may.
