Mitsubishi Blew It!
well ladies and gentleman (i think there's only one out there),
in case you didn't hear, mistubishi announced at the LA auto show that they'll be selling the evo VII in spring of next year. edmunds.com reported that it would be january of 2003. that's such a load of crap!! i'm starting a job out of college in september and i've been driving the same old honda civic hatch for the last 5 1/2 years. now mitsubishi expects me to wait 5-6 or maybe even up to 9 MORE months?!?!?!? mitsubishi has lost this lancer fan to the WRX. i may not like the WRX as much, but i'll give credit to subaru for bringing an affordable AWD vehicle with mad power and fast speed to america first. not only first, but it looks like it will be 1.5 to 2 YEARS ahead of mitsubishi. that's a LOT of WRX's. if mitsubishi can't get the business side down, then how am i supposed to trust their performance side. well i'm pissed at mitsubishi, and they've most likely lost me as a customer forever (unless they move up the release date). just had to vent. -moldy

LancerNYC,
my friend just got a WRX with the rear spoiler and security system (which are the only things i want), and it came out to just under $27,000 after tax, title, and tag. i'm shopping in the $30,000 and below range, so that is perfect. the alternatives are an audi a4 (slow), MB c-coupe hatch (slow and i don't like), and that's about it. the evo VII would have been perfect.

The EVO VII will be a better handling and faster car. But if you cant wait till next year then go buy the WRX. The reason I think Subaru had the WRX first was because they dont have that many models for you to choose from. I think its 2 or 3 models? I may be wrong. It is good for them to have it first to boost up their sales. Just my opinion. But you will regret not waiting because you will get left behind. I rented about 8 videos of Best Motoring and about 4 of them had the EVO VII vs WRX. Both with 280hp. Racing with other cars like Skyline GTR34, NSX type S, RX7, Supra etc... The EVO VII would either come first or second. But the WRX would come last or second to last. I have nothing against Subaru, but you should know that WRX is better for street use because its suspension is more plush and the Evo is stiffer. So it would depend on your daily driving and what kind of ride you want. Both are great cars but they both have their pros and cons. When it comes to cornering the EVO VII is simply the best. If you can rent one please do and see for yourself. Do some research on comparisons and see if the extra wait is worth it and if not then go buy the Subaru.
Hey, if you drove your Civic for about 5 years why not drive it for another year, it wouldnt hurt

I'm sorry but I just don't think that the WRX is even the same class of vehicle as the Evo.
If you wanna compare vehicles....compare the STI and the Evo, but not the Evo and the WRX. If you want a car that's reasonably priced and has pretty good comfort and performance, then you can talk about the WRX. If you want a car that can just plain kick the crap outta 95% of the cars on the road in a straight-line. And 99.9% of the cars on a road coarse then you can talk about the Evo. If I were you and I am (yer only about 3 years older than me)....I'd just hang on fer the Evo, or at least find out what they're bringin over fer the US-specs (AYC, hp, etc.). I can almost garauntee that you'll be happy you waited Hooby

Moldy,
I hope what you heard is not true, but if it is, I may have to buy a WRX, do some mods and that will have to hold me over until the EVO VII comes stateside. Then I can give the WRX to my son and we can go racing together at Sebring or the BMWCCA autocrosses at MacDill AFB and dust all those bimmers. Automakers have never been too swift about market conditions, unfortunately it is beancounters that control alot of this crap. (Believe me I know from years of experience). I'm going to try to contact the southeast rep to pick his brains. |

wait for one year for US EVO VII ?? see, they do this again.
What if it comes out like 250 hp and around $30000, is it worth that waiting? I don't think so. What if they said later " oh ! Maybe 2004, you will have EVO VII in US ". is it still worth that waiting ? Or you'll tell you self " why not drive another two years of civic " Because nobody is REALLY sure EVO VII will be here in 2003, I said go for the WRX or A4.

Hey, Lancerz, class act reply. Don't flame someone for buying something else. If you want this site to remain a good enthusiast site, stop that kind of crap. Just because I go out and buy a WRX, doesn't mean I won't buy a EVO later. But certainly if the quality of this site drops, I will certainly look elsewhere for support. You are doing a good thing here offering a place for guys to meet, but don't mess up a good thing by driving others away.

lancerz- are you pmsing?
moldy- my best friend bought a wrx like 6 months ago and hes had so much problems with it. hes brought it in to get serviced like 10 times already, no joke. he spent about $24k on his. the price isnt bad but i would be worried about the service issues. also have you SEEN what they do to the wrx's? i told my friend he was fruity bc he has pink badges all over his car. hes like, dammit thats what they do to wrxs! i was like okkkk. also they have the gold rims (which i personally think makes it look like a pimp mobile- ya know, like wheres the furry dice hanging from the rearview hahaha) and those gay ass yellow stars all over the place. so get a wrx if you want a fruitmobile lol. stick with the evo if you want a sleek, sexy, fast ass car.

im not flaming anyone. I have seen it so many times here. "omg why did i buy it". If you love the EVO and want an EVO, why would you compromise performance and settle for something lower?
I wouldn't buy a WRX, no way. I'd rather wait that extra few months for the EVO. In the USA you will see WRX's all over the place, instead of getting head turns you will get "oh its another WRX". This has happened so much in Australia, no-ones interested in WRX's now. We got 100 Makinen E6 editions and heads are still turning, the cars sold out basically before they even got here - as a matter of fact as soon as word broke out Ralliart Aus were on the phones taking orders. The EVO will get you head turns, peformance and style. The WRX *may* also do this, but not as well as the EVO, Im sorry. Gold rims should stay on the WRC WRX's, not street WRX's doesnt look good at all. And YES PLEASE I WANT PINK BADGES ON MY CAR!

You probably misunderstood. Here in US, with that money, I can only buy an Impreza. Why ?? Because there is NO EVO VII !!! ( no STi too) and most of us need a car to drive !! that's it.
I think most of the people are waiting for US EVO VII to compete with WRX or STi. I check this site and Lancerz's site everyday just want to know if there is any news about EVO. So somebody, like me, just feel frustrated when they hear this news. If someone buy a car other than an EVO, don't blame him. If Mitsubishi can bring the EVO to US, and Subaru can bring the STi, it will be a whole different story. |

I really dont know why you guys seem so surprised. Pretty much everbody has been saying late 2002 early 2003.
if you guys really feel the need to get a wrx, go ahead.. but theres a reason why you can only compare the STI's to the EVO's and not the regular wrx's and EVO's. |
