Exclamation shift problem

1993 Lincoln Continental has a problem at stop and accell turning. Rpms go up but no shift and then bangs into gear. On take off straight have no shift problems. Any ideas?

Sounds like either the trans fluid is low, or the pick-up filter dropped off.
