02 hood moves a lot NORMAL?

Have had my 2002 Eddie Bauer about a month now. Love it but wondering if at 75 mph or in a high head wind if it is normal for the hood to look like it is about to fly off the truck? It moves about 1/4 inch up and down at the point closest to the windshield. It has a Ford BugShield on it.

Thanks

Re: 02 hood moves a lot NORMAL?

Has the vehicle been in an accident before? Has any engine work that was done that required the hood to be removed? It you bought this thru Ford have them take a look at it. If bought thru other dealer or private party, you may want to check hood bolts at the hood hindges. I doubt bugshield will cause your problem. No it's not normal. Let us know what you find.

Took it to Ford....said the hood flex is normal...will wait till it flies off then tell them I told them so and have them put on a new one.

Thanks

The only thing normal is for them to tell you it's normal.

UPDATE

While in for a new Torque Converter a tech drove the car and agreed the hood moved too much. They said it was out of alignment and realigned it along with new adjusters. Needless to say this was no help to the problem.

Took off the Ford OE bug shield.....got on highway.....85 into a 20mph headwind, no movement. Ford did take back the shield and could not explain why it caused the problem adding they have sold hundreds with no other complaints.

Re: 02 hood moves a lot NORMAL?

I'm having the same problem with my 02 Explorer. I just added the Ford OEM bug guard and the hood and the side view mirrors start to vibrate at 70mph+. I will try to adjust the hood dampener fix the problem.
