Starter problem? Thanks....

Hey there I am looking for help if possible on why my buddies 2.3ltr stang's starter seems to run another 1/2 min or so after started? He has put in 2 new starters and each one works but grinds like he is still trying to start it while started for a bit afterwards...There is a remote car starter in this stang so I am assuming this to be the issue. There is a purple wire off of coil where it can't seem to be followed anywhere. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I have been searching for 2 days with nothing...Thanks,

What year is the Stang? What year car is the starter for? Ford changed starters in 92. It sounds like there's a couple wires crossed.

I have an 89 but have a 95 starter in it. If his is similar, you have to switch a couple of wires or else is stays on for a few extra seconds after you turn the key.

could still have current going to the starter relay after cranking the motor. hook a test light to the neg batter terminal. pull the small starting lead off the starter relay a little bit (so it still touches) and start the car. as soon as it starts, touch the exposed terminal the lead sits on and see if the test light comes on. if it does, the car is still trying to start itself due to (probably) a bad ignition switch.
