Yeah, they can clog up. One of the guys in our club was able to get 3 new horns under warranty. If you offroad, forget about the stock horn ever being usable. It's easy to replace if you want. Just buy a new one at an auto store, pull the old one and replace using the wires there. All you need is a phillips screwdriver and maybe a socket wrench, but I don't think you even need that. I just said screw it and bought an airhorn and relocated it in the engine compartment.

Re: horn question

Aw c'mon Schlud, you gettin' soft? Saw you had replied and figured you beat me to pointing out the "IMPORTANT:..." post at the top of the How-to/Installation (SHARE your techniques with other owners) section
It ain't workin' apparently, ho-hum.

I have a similar problem with my 2000 Xterra's horn. My horn started to get weak sounding about a year ago. I removed the horn wire uner the hood and cleaned the connections. It sounded a little stonger after that, but now it is actually not working at all when I press on the steering wheel. It does, however, still make a pathetically weak sound when I use the remote key lock. I was told that it might be the button on the steering wheel and that they would have to depressurize the air bag to even look at it. They said it would probably cost over $100.00 to fix. I need to pass inspection in June and would appreciate any input as well. Hope yours works by simply cleaning it ... good luck.

Get another dealer. They're lying to you. Depressurize the airbag.

Go to an autoparts store and buy a new horn, then plug it in.

Re: horn question

The 2000 has 2 horns, the main one in front of the radiator, and an alarm-only one towards the rear of the passenger side of the engine bay.

Schlud, care to move this to the electrical section?

I have tried Hella horns, Wolo horns and recently switched to the Griot air horns. All were fairly easy installs with the airhorns being the easiest. The Hella's were good but I like the air horns the best. The airhorns were also the cheapest.

Upgrade your horn fuse to 15 amp if you put the air horns in.

Yes those are the ones.

Loud and penetrating.

Easy mounting and do not take up much space.
