starter problem, and turbo question

90 Jetta-1.8 Digifant II
Anybody know why my starter turns the engine 4-6 times at a really good pace, than just stops. I'm pretty sure the starter was good when I took it out of my other car, and i'm trying to start is with cables from a running truck.

Also, what type of MAF Sensor does Digifant II use? I want to order a Apexi S-AFC for my Jetta, but the application charts only show Japanese cars. I skimmed through the Installation and User manuals and I think it will work no problem. The choices I have are Hotwire, Flap, Karmann, and Pressure...Theres also a number after the sensor type i.e.
PR-6 (Pressure Sensor-6), what does the number mean?
I desperately want to get a turbo on this thing, but I'm running into dead ends trying to figure out a cost effective way to control the fuel.

Now somebody is telling me the Apexi S-AFC isn't compatible with boost applications
