okay last night i was delivering pizzas when i realized that i didn't have much time but, i had a bunch of places to go. So i let my caprice unwind a bit. Well a bit to much because when the cop behind me finally got close enough to pull me over i realized that my speedometer was buried. He walked to the car and said "I don't know how fast you were going but i was running over 100 and i couldn't catch you." Some how i ended up getting a verbal warning for it but, i thought i was going to jail anyone else out there got any other storys like this.

you must have a horseshoe in your uh....LOL
Wow, I can say ONE time and ONE time only i also got that lucky. I was on I-77 North towards Charlotte...Late like usual, on a '97 GSXR 750 doing about 110...the cop was on the other side of the hill and when i saw him he was pointed towards me and i was thinking there wasn't any way he would try and catch me...SHE finally got me and said she didnt clock me but she knew i was speeding...she clocked me from behind at 97mph while trying to catch up...i explained the story and wow she told me to get outta here and try to keep it under 10 over. Since then...i haven't been pulled over but i haven't given up my love for speed. Nice one though...

Re: pulled over going about a buck twenty anyone got one better?
I summer day was headed south on I-75 about south of Columbus OH when I put the pedal to the metal in the ol '78. The needle was buried for a few miles, not sure how fast i was going but it felt about right.
I finally slowed down and stopped at a greasy spoon to get a bite to eat and about half way through a cheeseburger a Highway patrolman walked in, looked around, (there was about five people there, I guess he knew most of 'em) sat down at my table, lays down a ticketbook and asks for my drivers license. He looked at it a minute, slid the book over and said "sign on the line" I guess he ran the plates while he was outside because the ticket was all filled in already. (He wrote 100mph) "How'd you know?" I asked. He said, "well, there's only two of us that patrol this area, I sit at one end of town and my partner sits at the other. When i saw that red streak of lightning go by I radioed my partner to be ready....when you didn't show i figured you musta wrecked it, so I started toward town, and thats when i saw that big red boat in the parking lot." "Yeah, but how'd you know it was me and not some other red car?" 'cause your is the only one steamin' and sprayin' anti-freeze all over the place." |

Well- I do have a pretty good one. I was deprting Hickam Air Force Base heading to dowtown Honolulu in my 87 Monte SS and as I pulled of of the military base, I merged into traffic right next to a tricked out Dodge Dakota R/T and the race began. As we proceded to accelerate past the 100 MPH mark we flew right by a motorcyle cop that was in pursuit of a different vehicle. Needless to say, he pulled off his chase and targeted myself and my partner in crime. Luckily for me, he didn't get me on radar, so he could only issue me a basic speed violation for $71. It definatley could have been a lot worse.

I'm in Columbus, OH, home of the now infamous sniper. Got on I-70 in my '94 cop-Caprice w/LT1 'Vette engine with K&N intake and dual flowmasters w/no catalytics. Haven't dyno-tested it, but I'm guessing 350-400 ponies, since the engine is rated at 300 or 305, I forget which. Along comes a dude in a Saleen Mustang. I was going about 100 merging into traffic from the onramp. He challenged me, and I took off. Lost him easy and I backed off at 140 mph. So much for those Saleen's! That's the quickest I've taken my baby so far, and I had a lot left. The car has been up to 185 mph with the previous owner. Passed an Ohio 'rooper on the shoulder, and he took off after us, but I got off the next exit and lost him. He couldn't hold a candle to my car. He also had a '94, but not sure if he had the 'Vette engine. Columbus still has a fleet of Caprice's, but not many anymore. Ya gotta LOVE these things! I have a few cop friends in my neighborhood, and they all drive Vic's, and they think thier cars suck. They want mine.
p.s. My shitty digital speedo reads up to 199, but the damn thing has a crack in the housing, so it doesn't always work. Often am driving with no speedo. Anyone know how much it costs to repair/replace? One mechanic said it could cost a boatload. Only thing I'm concerned with is how fast I'm going when I'm driving in town. On the freeway, no problem, I know that I'm going 75 by my tach reading, which would be about 1800-1900 rpm. Thanks. |

Re: pulled over going about a buck twenty anyone got one better?
Yeah, that streach on I-77 around charlote is nice and straight isn't it? I used to drive that quite often in my 91 305. I've had it since high school and one time I was driving to Virginia Beach on 460 through the tidewater area. I forget the county names but the road is completely straight and flat for mile after mile, county after county until you get down there. Just trees on the side. Well being an adventurous 18 year old with a big car I decided to see how fast she'd go. There wasn't anyone else arround so I floored it. To this day I've no idea how fast it went since the numbers only go up to 85, but it was way faster than that. Another time I did what surely must have been an average of 95 to DC to make the 2000 new years eve bash. I was lucky I didn't get caught. Although the one time I did get pulled over, I got a ticket for going 74 in a 65. Right. I guess he was having a bad day. Or maybe I just looked fast. Nothing says look at me like a huge white car. lol.

Quote:
Fading speedos is a common problem. You could take yours out and clean all the contacts or buy a good used one for about $100 at most and swap them. |

Re: pulled over going about a buck twenty anyone got one better?
Didn't get caught, but how about 164 indicated in a twin-turbo Pantera. Southbound on I-81 in Harrisburg, PA at about 3 in the morning. We passed a cop and figured he wouldn't even try. Well, he tried but we dusted him. Figuring we would just get off at our exit, we eased off a little to 140. Our exit had a cop waiting for us, so on to the next one. Every exit for the next 40 or so miles to the MD border had one waiting for us, so we just cruised on into MD. We were both 16 and too scared to go back, so we holed up in a Holiday inn in Hagerstown.

Re: pulled over going about a buck twenty anyone got one better?
I drive back and forth from Pennsylvania to Colorado about 3-4 times a year. Nothing makes the small town heros feel encroached on like bringing a '94 classic with limo tint and of course the alley light screaming through their stretch of I-70. Well like a black cloud over my head I have been pulled over in every state here to there.
My favorite, Missouri State Patrol pulled me over about 30 miles from KC. Asked me to get out of the car come sit with him. So he began to tell me how we clocked me 115 from the opposite direction, with the speedo out like usual, I couldnt argue, but he said what he like most was that when he crossed the median to come after me he pulled over 145 in his vic. Low and behold his radio chimed in with an assistance call, another officer had one that would not pull over and was quickly heading his way. So he told me I had 40 miles to get out of his state and if he got finished in time and could catch me again I would be lucky if he didnt end up with the car. |

Re: pulled over going about a buck twenty anyone got one better?
Oh yeah, by the way...still have not received a ticket but I have been pulled over 10 times in the last 10 months. Most common reason, "couldnt help but notice that you were going a little fast, but I wasn't able to get you on radar. Lets slow it down ok." They just like to show they are still in charge!

I've got a wrecked 1993 caprice, ex police car, with a 305 and a good speedo(I bought it wrecked, and the axel is bent so I can't check, but I think the speedo is good.) If your interested in it for cheap drop me an email at [email protected] I'm taking the engine and trans out of the car but if there's any other parts your interested in (interior is trashed but the back half of the car has excellent glass) let me know. Its just taking up space in my drive way right now, and I'd be happy to let some parts go for cheap.
Let me know, Tim P.S. The driverside air-bag is still good, too! |

Re: pulled over going about a buck twenty anyone got one better?
On a trip back from windsor, me and my buddies decided to crank it up on north I-75 outta Pontiac. I'm in my '84 caprice with the 305 and my buddy has a '91 corsica with the 3.1. My friends corsica shuts off at 110, and I blew past him. The speedo was buried without the foot to the floor. It was a sight. We were flyin by vettes and mustangs. We even tried to get some hopped up civic to chase, but nobody would. I think they had to laugh. Thank god for Cobra radar detectors.
