Question Rev Limiter

I was just wondering...I hate how the rev limiter on my 97 RS only lets me rev the engine to 4000 RPMs, I just got my new exhaust on and i cant stand not being able to rev it up higher to let people hear it. How hard is it to take the rev limiter off? And how do you do it?

Re: Rev Limiter

the rev limiter is in the computer and you have to get it reprogrammed to change it. it's interesting that your limiter is at 4K cause i can get my 3.4 up to 5500. i would figure the 3.8 would be allowed higher than that...

Re: Rev Limiter

well i mean the engine doesnt redline till after 6000 but in neutral I can only rev it up to 4000...some other people I know with newer GM's say the same thing.

Re: Rev Limiter

yeah its to keep rev happy people from blowing engines. the newer engines are designed to protect themselves from leadfoots. covettes actually cut fuel to the engine if you try to powerbrake it. wanna let them hear it, do a burnout. if your gonna have fun, and show it off, do it right to begin with

the 231 buick v-6 ( which is what all the 3.8 are) is not a verry fast or high revving engine. The rev limiter is set there for a reason.
