Re: 2002 4.0 Mountaineer
I purchased a 2002 Mountaineer in Oct. 2003 with 30,000 miles...4.0L,5 speed auto. trans,7 passenger seating....2weeks ago at 33,000 the vehicle developed a roar that increases, decreases pitch with change in speed...have eliminated tires, wheels as problem...local FORD dealer puzzled....does anyone have any ideas??

Some Mountaineers have developed a grinding noise from the front end. It's been documented on various web sites. Surely the dealer must know about THAT one? I didn't have the problem in my '98 and now 2000, so I have no idea what would cause that noise.
