I have a 2000 jetta GLS, stock premium radio/cassette. I changed out the driver's side headlight and now the radio has no sound (the display reads 88.3 FM - no presets, volume, cassette, etc works but the display lights and alarm system still work. I took it to the local dealer (car!) to get the code for the radio but they didn't put it in because the display did not read "SAFE" (they said I may have fried the receiver putting in the headlight, but wouldn't the fuse have burnt out?) Do you think the radio is just locked? Any help would be Great! Thanks

Re: 2000 radio odd problem
Not really. Those Jettas are very bothersome. My dealer blamed me for all my problems because I would put gas in the car!!!!!

I also removed the battery to install the headlight bulb. So, do you think I fried the receiver? Or do I just need the radio code? (since I unhooked the battery) Any help on this would be great.

Re: 2000 radio odd problem
The radio is able to tell it is still in the same vehicle & doesn't go into safe mode. More likely when you reconnected the battery the power flickered a few times & screwed something up. The only thing you might try is to disconnect the power again & reconnect to see of the problem clears. If problem persists take it to someone knowledgabe with a VAG-COM that isn't wanting to sell a new radio & have them try to re-program the radio.
