Angry truck running bad smells like flooding

I have an 89 4X4 2.9 V6 ranger. My problem started suddenly. When I take off it acts like it's running out of gas but when it's idling it smells like it's flooding and lopes like it has a big cam. I ran the codes on it and got 22,51,53,54. N E help would be appreciated

Hillbilly....Did you tune it up?...I mean everything..I hope thats not a dumb question....I've had the same problem with my 91..

Keep it tuned, and it runs great....

yea Andy&Eye is right, jsut make sure you are up to date with the tuning on your engine, if it lopes it should be the air fuel mixture, just turn the idle screw one full turn and see if it helps, and keep turnign it back and forth till you find the right mixture

The idle screw doesn't affect the air fuel mixture. It's to set your idle RPMs. The only successful way I've been able to adjust mine is by converting my computer over to a 1990 MAF Californian Ranger ECU and putting MAF on it with an IST Air Adjuster. Unfortunately your ECU has a built in table that just guesses what the air fuel mixture should be. On a lean or a rich mixture, I've found that my Ranger doesn't have these same symptoms. What you have is a miss. Check your spark plugs. They hold a lot of details on how your engine is actually running. Let me know after you check the plugs, or if you need me to deciper those codes. I do not have my manual handy, and will have to look them up when I get home.

Just did a 5 second search on google:
22 - MAP Sensor out of range
51 - ECT sensor out of range indicated / circuit open
53 - Fuel injector pump lever sensor input is greater than self test
54 - Intake Air charge temperature sensor circuit open; vane air flow sensor out of range

Something is going awall...
