is it possible to put a v8 in a 98 gtp? like Ls1 or a caddy northstar w/ minimal cutting? any help or info would be appreciated.

I highly doubt that a LS1 LT1 or a WS6 would fit in a grand prix because the grand prix has a transversly mounted engine so i think your best bet would be would be the northstar that u can get from cadillac i think id look for a wrecked eldorado because u can prolly get one for a decent price, now for the wiring i dont know about that either so if get the whole car so u have all the parts or else i wouldnt try it at all, i know the northstar has around 300 hp stock. so i guess if i was looking for all out Hp stick with the supercharged 3800 ive seen them with over 450 hp and theres still room to go i believe intenseracing or zz performance has one with over 600 on the S/C 3800 so bottom line id save the work and tear apart the 3800. for more info id ask rippin12's i seems to know alot about the 1997 plus grand prix.

Re: v8 in 98 gtp

to go ahead and do the swap would be a complete waste of time and money you can get more out of a 3800sc than a northstar, the northstar is absolutely huge with its twin cam design i have seen them pump out 2000 hp twin turbod but for what you are probably doing i would stick with the 3800 sc this engine is one of the more advanced durable engines that create a lot of horsepower

Re: v8 in 98 gtp

If you go to www.clubgp.com I remember seeing a post about a LS1 being swapped into a GP. I dont know if it happened already or they were getting ready to do it or not.

Re: v8 in 98 gtp

Well, the only GP look like car I know to have a very nice fit V8 is:
http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/t6252.html
As all here have said, do not waste your time converting your car to a V8. Ripn12s car has 291hp on the wheels. Mine has 270hp(est) on the wheels and I bet mine is the wimpiest compared to 99 gtp's or IH8RICE's
It would be easier and cheaper to start moding your 3800 sc engine than swaping in a V8.

Re: v8 in 98 gtp

Buddy, if they can put a V8 pro-charged 5.7 into a GRAND AM, I'm sure they can manage one into a Grand Prix.

Re: v8 in 98 gtp

J Swigs, do you have a site or names of the guys that did it. I did not said impossible, but you got to be really hard core to pull that out. I have to tell you I have seen people installing Paxton Novi 1000 CSC in place of the OEM airbox and moding GT's and Monte Carlos that are not supposed be FI. So I know somone out there must have done it, but, how hard was it?

come on get real the G8 is insane but whats the price tag of that and where r u gonna find the parts stick with the SC 3800 because parts are everywhere. parts for the v8 would take a lot of work to ge ti to fit and wiring and every thing else so stick with the SC 3800 ur if u wanna try putting some thing bigger in it. besides bigger onces aren't as eficent. look for some performance parts for the 3800 parts are every where and easy to come by.

Re: v8 in 98 gtp

JJUbeck, it is a tang 5.0? Because I have seen a lot of folks wasting Tangs GT's on their GTP's (Me included, even before installing the thrasher CAI). It is better to tune a little the 3800 than swapping in a tang 5.0

Re: v8 in 98 gtp

Yeah I've seen some GTP's taking a stang, in person and on video, however I don't think most GTP's would touch a supercharged 5.0, let me see if I can find the pics.......
