modding 98 GT
Hey, I'm new to the site and am looking for anyone who has experience with a 98 GT. Recently bought one with few mods. Would like to get my car into the 13's to start with.
Mods are as follows. Cold Air Intake w/ K&N filter Flowmaster 2 chamber exhaust. (dumps out mid car) Shorty Headers aftermarket springs and shocks. (believe eibach, going to check tomorrow) ROH Snyper custom rims w/ 275-45-17 Potenza's (rear) 245-45-17 " " (front) What is the best way to add horsepower without investing exrodinary amounts of money? Mod's I've thought about. NoS (not entirely thrilled with the idea. though looks good here http://www.musclemustangfastfords.co...309mm_nitrous/ ) underdrive pulley set cams - crane??? heads - cobras? intake mainfold aluminum axel - ford racing Extreme Matrix Kit (suspension) - Kenny Brown I've not done anything to the dif. and have a auto tranny. This is my first posting on here so I'm not quite sure if this is the right place to post. I have my own shop to work in with all the tools you could imagine. (teach automotive) Would like to know if anyone has modded a 98 GT before to see what it takes well to. |

Best way on a 4.6 2V to add hp is Nitrous or FI Cheapest way to drop ET's new gears.

However, nitrous is somewhat cheaper and easier to install. Zex has a dummy-proof kit. You can start installing in the morning and be done before noon. |

Re: modding 98 GT
Well being that you have an auto, you can see great results from a 3000-3400rpm Stall converter and Valve body (jerry mod its free if you know what youre doing). Also cant go wrong with some gears. Get at least 4.10s!! You wont regret them! Since you have a 98 you may also look into getting some PI (99+ SOHC) Heads and PI intake. Top that with some VT Engines Stage 2 N/A cams and you should be around or a little over 280rwhp with a good tune.
![]() Keep in mind these mods arent cheap and you can see better results in going Nitrous or Forced Induction.

I am loking at getting about 550+ hp from all this.............the Super charger alone gave me 340 hp at the wheels............
There is no way to get "lots" of HP without Good amounts of $$$..........that is a fact. You can get a decent amount of "Added" Hp with a few bucks here and there.......... You cannot use Cobra heads (DOHC) we have a (SOHC). You don't need a cam ---500$$ anyways....The 4.6 cam is very workable with mods. things to get --- Bassani or BBK X-pipe with Cats, Underdrive pulleys, 3:73 Gearing in Axel (ring and pinion), B&M Ripper shifter (if Manual), 65-75mm Throttle body (75 w/o supercharger) (65-70 w supercharger). Those aren't too expensive, but any more mods and you will need a bit of $$$$............

Note:.............
Also, If you are looking into NOS, do not go cheap and get the "intake/mass air sprayed nos system".........the old style nos.........It will fook up ur car bad.....and wastes nitruos...
The Nozzle http://www.brothersperformance.com/s.../nos08100.html system is the only real way to use Nos effeciently, safely and keep your engine in god shape. Nozzle uses your existing Injectors (or new ones) and gets injected with your gas straight into the Cylinder. I can be controlled so well that you can ste the rpm's to which it will "go off" and "shut off" and change it at any time to either full nitro from the start or again at specific RPM's. This is my next investment unless I find a dual turbo kit that actually works well for the 98gt's..................But first I need a Tremic...........

hopefully everyone will forgive me for not responding directly to your threads. still new at this.
my exhaust has a H pipe. off the heads it has shortys, flex pipe, cats, then flowmasters. only mustang i've seen that has them dump mid car. NOS makes a the NOSzle system specific for my year and style engine. it comes with all the plumbing and hardware needed to adjust it while having the throttle stop switch and arming switch. my issue with that is that i dont want to do lots of damage to my car. with this in mind is it still adviseable to go that route? Vortech SC would cost me around 3500. at this price i would almost like to build a new engine or look into a 98 cobra engine. (though i'd love to have the SC) I still want to drive it on the streets for now so I'm thinking 4:10 would be a bit much. 3:73 sounds more my area. of course doing this i'd have to get the ptrack. the smaller mods is where i believe i'm going to start. the 75mm throttle body , underdrive pulleys, and find a way to reduce the overall weight of my car. on the 23 I am taking it to IRP (Indianapolis Raceway Park) to see what it will do in the 1/4 right now and how much it weights. hope to get a dyno in some time as well. |

![]() You have positrac right now---- Limited slip Posi 1200$ For new rearend on a 98 --Posi,axels,pinions, etc.. You cannot build a new (mustang) engine for 3500$$........it costs more than that for the 98gt 4.6L. A DoC Cobra engine is well over 4000$ for the block and cams......... ![]() THe supercharger is better for your stock engine (I had mine on my stock engine) than the nitrous will be. ![]() But you are on the correct path to go with the 75mm TB, Pullys, & the 3:73 gears. ![]() Exactly what Aftermarket parts are on ur 98 right now.........That would help............. I can help you some with prices and What works and what doesn't, but only from my experience and hearsay......lol

Re: modding 98 GT
Fuck 3.73 gears. You got an auto, GO WITH 4.10s!!! DONT FEAR THE GEAR! Your car will be very streetable with 4.10s!
![]() And nothing wrong with Nitrous. I am really debating on running a 75 wet shot from NX

Re: Re: modding 98 GT
a quick seach on google gave me a 2001/2002 cobra engine for about $5k. havent gone far enough to check to see if it would work for a 98 GT.
http://www.karkraft.com/engines.htm if i got a motor through Ford i would get a rather sizeable discount on them. i am considering the s/c route still. if i went with no2 i could use the extra cash for other mods though. however before i do either of those i'm still going w/ the suspension mods and under drives , throttle body. i know the s/c is easier on the engine and gives you constant hp. im only curious if i could do nitrous and then other mods as well. use the nitrous at the track and save money for the rest of the car. i know if you want your car to go fast its going to cost. thanks for the help. what prices can you get me? i've got MMFF / Summits latest issues which i can find a great deal in. if you could give me some ideas it would be apprecaited. |

i dunno how many times i've said this, but i'll say it as many as it takes...
good, cheap, fast - pick 2 good + cheap = not fast fast + cheap = not good good + fast = not cheap i consider this the fundamental mantra for any modder

![]() If you go Nitro, you must change out your pistons at least, and your ThrottleBody..........Stock pistons will crack after a while....... Heres another place to compare prices... www.brothersperformance.com the Nozzle system is 1,200$ install/labor-3-400$, new pistons ?2-700$?, install-500$+/-.unless you do it your self then its free...lol You should definatly start with the small stuff! Get the Pulleys, rear gears, and such.........Oh! Yeah! I forgot...Get a real good shift kit for ur auto-tranny....
