Test Drove the NEW GTO

I'm not really a lover or hater of the NEW GTO.

Though because of the LS1, I was intrigued enough
take a extended test drive in one. The styling is
much debated so I won't digress too much. However,
seeing these cars in person, they almost look like
Cavaliers if you're not really paying attention, and
of course the front end is signature-Pontiac that
resembles a Grand AM, Grand Prix morphed together.

The actual drive was pretty decent. Very civil when
going thru the gears(6-speed), although the exhaust
note is much better and on target than the stock
exhaust featured on the Chevy Corvettes(go figure).

To spin the wheels required Traction Control turned off
and dropped the clutch at about 2500rpms and it will
lay down a good amount of rubber. It felt fast, but not
Corvette fast, as it's weight differential plays into the
equasion big-time. Even with the lbs it seemed very
nimble going thru a slalom of cones. I thought the stopping
power was very good.

Total seat time was about an hour on public roads and a
limited testing location.

I wasn't overly impressed, but I wasn't dissapointed either.
It kind performed like I thought it would having followed
the specs and press deluge on the car. I left wondering
who the car is targeted for in terms of buyers. The tester
was stickered for $33k.

Re: Test Drove the NEW GTO

honestly unless pontiac does something to the styling of this vehicle and increases the h.p i doubt this car will live. 350 h.p and high 13s dont impress me for a rear wheel drive vehicle that is not a practical daily driver year round in the midwest(winter time). Major reason why they quit making the infamous camaro and firebird. Also a major reason why the infiniti g35 now offers all wheel drive, possibly because of potential midwest buyers like me that opted for the comp g.

Re: Test Drove the NEW GTO

my parents were picking up there new grand prix last week so i sat in a gto they had there and i was playing around in it.. the shifter felt very long and sloppy to me... Nothing at all like my Cobra.. As for the car being a GTO lol.. it's nothing like a GTO.. it was sold in australia for god sakes.. it's a holden.. I think the car is more low 14's to the daily driver and high high 13's at the track with all the little tricks done.. like, lowering tire preassure, taking out the spare.. the car sucks if you ask me, but maybe i have high standards..
