87 instrument cluster in 86?

Could I swap an 87 cluster into an 86? I really wanna put in a set of reverse glow gauge overlays in, but they only make them for the 87-93 and up.

i'm doing exactly the same thing, except i'm putting in the dash and center console from a '90 LX 4-banger. if you want just the guages and not the whole dash, i don't know what to say... but i like that dash a lot better overall than the pre-87 ones, so it's worth the extra effort to me.

for the wiring, i will likely call Painless and see if i can get a custom harness made for the entire car. that would probably cost me the least in asprin, although custom harnesses aren't cheap... but i want the car to be clean and functional, so it's gotta be the best.
