Need some help please!

Today i changed my head gasket on my 91 si, i put on a 2 layer y8. I got everything bolted back together, put the timing belt back where it was, started it up and it ran good for acouple mins untill i reved it up to about 4K then it made this horrible loud chatter kind of noise, so i shut it off, i looked at the timing belt and it was loose as hell.. what the hell could it have been? its too dark to mess with it now ill wait till tomorrow to fix the timing.

ouch that sucks. Maybe you didnt tighten the tensioner enough and it came loose. The thing im real worried about is that the clanking noise might have been the cylinders hitting the valves which probly bent them. You might need to get a new head...

Re: Need some help please!

I really think you f*ed up ur head. That sound u hear was ur pistons probably smacking ur valves since the loose timing belt threw off the timing. Take the head back off...

Well i put the timing belt back on and made sure it was tight.. Would bent valves cause the engine not to start? the timing is on im sure.. both the crank and cam are at TDC and the dizzy is on the #1 piston but it still wont start.

Re: Need some help please!

i guess its possible it would still start but it would run horribly. The only way to tell is to remove the head again. My buddy Ray's Crx ran horrible for awhile because his number 4 cylinder pretty much had a missing intake valve. it just wasn't there. like half of it was missing. Don't ask me where it went..lol. But in ur case, im sure you bent all 16 valves so then I don't think it will start.
