Intercooling hypothetical..

Does anyone think that if I were to install a air to water intercooler on my 02 GTP.. And keep the stock blower pulley.. That I could safely run "regular" (87 octane) pump gas.. Or maybe 89 mid grade..

Alcohol injection. I have one and I run 24 PSI on pump gas with 22* of timing with no knock. My buddies 95 supercoupe runs stock boost levels with alcohol with 87. Here is a link.

I really wasn't looking to do the water/alcohol injection thing..Although injecting water does a great job of de-carbonizing your combustion chambers.. That's not what I'm looking for..

I want a setup that I can drive coast to coast, and not worry about finding good gas.. Or keeping bottles filled or jets clean..

Re: Intercooling hypothetical..

To answer your question, yes...a quality intercooler (I suggest Zzp) will allow you to run the stock pulley on 87. Your going to want to drop pulleys though....the temptation will overwhelm you...

Re: Intercooling hypothetical..

GTP, what is important is that when the fuel gets to the combustion chamber it does not detonate before it is meant to. As I said on other threads, to better know what your car is doing the best route is to get a scanner and find out the kr when using different fuels. An inexpensive scanner is http://www.ls1m.com that you can keep safely in your car at all times. After installing the intercooler and pumping different rating fuels you can use the gauge function to check the kr on a normal drive or 0-60 blaze or even under WOT conditions.

Joe Joe... Thanks for the reply, that is what I was hopeing.. And although I'm a hardcore drag racer, I don't think I'll be upping the boost..
Mainly cause the GTP is my wifes daily driver (I've got a truck).. And because I'm currently building a 800 hp turbocharged, Dart block, Mustang.. It just might sneek into the 8's.. I don't have a need to play with the GP..

Kilroy.. Thanks for the tip on the scanner.. When my Mustang was a street car with a Kenne-Bell screw supercharger.. I ran something called a J&S Safe Gard.. It used a GM knock sensor that you screwed into the engine block.. And the unit would retard ONLY the cylinders that were detonating..Keeping the others at full timing.. It would remove between 2 and 20 degrees of timing, depending on the intensity of the knock.. And it has a monitor that showed what was being taken out from where.. Valuable piece.. And I'm glad to hear a scanner can monitors the same thing on my GP..

Re: Intercooling hypothetical..

GTP, it would not be as precise as telling you on what cyl you are getting kr, but at least tells you how much you are getting.
