Shifting...

Just wondering how you guys shift when racing or running at the track. Do you redline it? Or is there a certain RPM that's best to shift at? Thanks.

Re: Shifting...

Well...i dont even have my first car yet.But i am 14 just to let you know and i drove my first stick when i was 10.So i have 4 years with a stick.I'm getting my VR-4 soon.Cant wait.Anyways.This is just me but you alway what to be in your power band.So...lets say your red line is at 7000 RPM.And your best power RPM place is at 5600 RPM and when you shift your RPMs go back 1500.That mean from 7000 RPM when you shift it will go back to 5500 right where you have the most power. So i guess it just matters where you have the most power at.Most of the time i would redline it just cuz most of the time it will put you right at where you want.

There is an equation to figure out where your ideal shift points are, I read it on one of the 3000gt websites out there, perhaps somewhere on www.stealth316.com(?) I can't honestly remember, but he said that the ideal shift points for the vr4 were all around redline, some were actually a bit over(according to his calculations). When I race it I just take it to redline. I'd assume that would be your best bet with an SL.
