stock radio upgrade problem

Hey i have a 01 tahoe LT w/ factory sound system. I want to upgrade to aftermarket mobile videoand sound screen, tha retracts in and out of dash.

1. how hard is it to remove?
2. will onstar still work? it works thru the radio i think..
3. has anyone install a mobile video in stock location and not had any problems w/ gear shift lever in parked postion?

I've seen a Tahoe come through the shop with a fold-out unit in the dash so obviously it can be done, however, the gear shifter was touching it in the park position and effecting the position of the screen. I would suggest looking at a remote mount monitor instead. What it lacks in coolness it will make up for in practicality.

Re: stock radio upgrade problem

If the vehicle is in park you will have an issue with the monitor flipping out but if it is in gear there is no issue.. If the monitor is already flipped outa nd the vehicle is put back into park it is fine. If you have onstar you will require an onstar bypass module since onstar uses the stock radio to distribute its sound. Your vehicle will require one of two modules. Here are the models of the SoundGate product and the descriptions so you can decide which module you need. OnStar interface designed for use in system installs where only the factory radio is being replaced. Equipped with simple wire leads for use in
non-General-Motors vehicles.

Part# STARMOD2 OR STARMOD1V2
OnStar interface designed for use in system installs that include new amplifiers, new radio, etc. Pre-wired with General Motors 9-pin connector.

most likely one is for weather you have a bose system or not as well. So keep that in mind.
