I dunno. I don't really think we need an import-centric contest on the boards considering the import laden nature of AFMOTY.

Maybe a contest for historical race car replicas or customs or dragsters would be more interesting and offer up a more diverse range of models.

most of the builders on this forum only build imports. plus on the 'best SAS' to enter you just have to have something from SAS to enter, like slk has his charger with SAS brakes. that whould quallify. i like the idea of a custom car contest cuz then you can have everything from a 1920's car to a drift car, plus sas stuff whould be custom so it kinda falls in all.

Re: what contest??

Drift contest sounds good... as long as its not just the over the top style of cars, would be nice to see some hardcore mountain style cars too...

How about an old school imports comp, say pre-1989 style cars..

JDMHotrod, when I say custom I define it the way Car Modeler defines their annual Custom Car Contest: You did it yourself. NO AFTERMARKET RESIN/WHITE METAL BODY PARTS! (Note, this doesn't apply to trim, headlights, or other such minor accessories).

Taking a box stock Tamiya S2000 and sticking an SAS body kit on it with some Fujimi or Aoshima wheels and tires, to me, isn't custom because someone else can do the exact same thing with the exact same parts.

This is custom. Kunta's widebody 308 or Tsuchiya's "American Pie" Corvette is a custom.

SAS aftermarket resin. Perry's Resin. Jimmy Flintstone resin. Not custom.

I really like the idea of the "custom" contest, but i think that the SAS contest would apeal to a LOT more people, and there woudl be a decent turnout.

so the SAS contest gets my vote

I've nothing against the SAS stuff, I just don't think it is a good basis for a contest. (unless FOTW whats to run and judge it.)
Customs, and call it a show, sort-of a NNL now winners format.

looks like i am leaning twords the custom car contest, in fact it is setteled it will be a custom car contest. now what about time limits?? since its a custom car contest the cars may take longer than most. also what about rules?? i dont want people to just slap a custom paint job on a model and call it a custom. i know one rule for sure is that it can not be an already completed model, and that you have to post a progress thread. anything else?? can the poll be locked since my mind is made up?? thanks.

Robert.

p.s. i do not have anything that i can offer as a prize, anyone wanna chip in
