Question 2000 impala ls

hello all! have 2000 ls and have discovered two hoses leading out of what looks like the radiator, close to the bottom, that are a little too close to the exhaust manifold, these hoses are burning, not sure where they go but it looks to me like they would be expensive too replace.obliviously there should be a heat shield of some sort ,but there isn't.fixed the problem with some high temp tape for now ,but im sur eit wont last forever!Has anyone come across the same deal? if so...can ya tell me what i need to do so this impala doesnt put me in the poor house so shortly after buying it!!!!! thx V

Not having seen exactly what you are seeing I can only speculate that these hoses are Automatic Transmission Cooler Hoses. They probably should be replaced if they have been overheated by the exhaust pipe because they may have become brittle and could break causing transmission failure, and yes, that crossover pipe under the hood should have heat shields on it. They could have been removed during some earlier repair and not reinstalled.

If you replace the hoses and reinstall the exhaust pipe shields you shouldn't have any more problem with this.

I'm very curious about all the other problems you have had with the car.

Let us know.

Dude

You can click on the link below and view a list of GM Technical Bulletins released on this model. You may want to save this for future reference.

If you need more info on any particular bulletin, you can purchase a years subscription to a complete online service manual for your car at ALLDATA.com or contact your local Chevy Parts or Service Department.
