Unhappy Keyless entry - 2000 Impala

Ok, here's the situation -

I just purchased a 2000 Impala LS from a small local dealership. The car is perfect, except for one problem. We did not get any keyless entry remotes with the car (and I am sure it is equipped). I purchased 2 new GM remotes on E-Bay, and they came in an unopened package.

My question is this...I follow the programming instructions in the owner's manual, but they don't work. Do I have to get remotes that are more specific to my car? I mean, these look just like the ones in the owner's manual, and they are from GM. Any ideas on what's wrong, or do I have to have them programmed by a dealer, or did I just buy the wrong remote. Any advice would be a great help!

I have just purchased a 2001 Impala, and it did not have a remote either. I went to the dealer, and they ran the VIN,which showed that it had that option. My next question to them was how much for a new one. 35.00 plus another 35.00 to program!!I am hoping to buy one on E-bay. The part number that they gave me was #10443537.This may be the same for a 2000.Ask your dealer for details. After I receive a remote,I will need help to program it. Going thru the radio settings,I came across settings for FOB. I assume this is for the remote. Any help would be appreciated .Thanks

I wouldn't buy that stuff off e-bay. If you have the part number and you're not going to buy it from the dealer, check out the prices on gmpartsdirect.com

You'll be surprised!

I have a rmote for your 2000 Impala. Part#10443537, FCC ID:Koblear1xt, Canada: 3521 102 1718.

I was going to sell it on ebay but will sell to you if interested. I had same situatuion with a 2000 Montana I just bought. I just bought two remotes off ebay and they work fine. As long as you have the right part# they should program.

Email me if you are interested.

Sometimes following this proceedure from the owner's manual can be a bit confusing as it tends to skip around here and there...try it as follows.

FOB PROG (Remote Keyless Entry Transmitter Programming): This feature allows you to match the remote keyless entry transmitter to your vehicle.
To match the transmitter:

1. Scroll, using the SEEK up or down arrows, until FOB PROG appears on the display.
2. Press the PREV or NEXT button to enter the submenu. The current selection will have an asterisk next to it. BEGIN will be displayed.
3. Press the DISP button to start programming. When the message PUSH FOG flashes, press and hold the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the first transmitter at the same time for 15 seconds. A chime will be heard to verify the transmitter is learned.
4. Repeat Step 3 for each additional transmitter.

The mode you selected is now set. You can either exit the programming mode by following the instructions later in this section or program the next feature available on your vehicle.

EXIT (Exit Feature Customization Mode): This feature allows you to exit the vehicle customization programming.
To Exit:
1. Scroll until EXIT appears on the display.
2. Press the DISP button to exit programming. A chime will he heard to verify the exit.

remotes

I followed those directions and now only one remote will work at a time. If I program one...the other doesnt work....and visa-versa. I got a remote with the same numbers as the ones on my remote...so what is the problem?
