Question how do you determine static myu?

How do you determine a tire's static myu from just looking at a catalog selling tires?

Question

I'm not sure I know what kind of information you are looking for. I have never heard of static myu. What exactly is that?

Re: how do you determine static myu?

If you are talking about static friction, commonly given the Greek letter mu by engineers, you can't determine that from a catalog.

Besides, the number you get is a function of the road surface so everyone who develops the number must test on the same surface.

Hope this helps.

Re: how do you determine static myu?

I am not aware of any industry standard for static friction of tires. Like CapriRacer said, they would all have to be tested under the same conditions. You would have to contact each individual tire company to see if they have any test results on that but I dout they would be able to provide that info. Other than the UTQG rating, there is no industry standard in place for that type of info (and the UTQG is far from 'uniform' across brands).
