95 240SX vs 93 mr2

which one would handle better with simple mods. with a sr swap in the 240sx, which would have a better engine?

Re: 95 240SX vs 93 mr2

Handling wise the mr2 has a shorter wheelbase and is a mid engine so it floats around everything, no contest. It is a bit week on power but is a fairly lightweight car. The 240sx has a bit of an upper had with all the mods out there so will kick out more power. I would say it’s a toss up between them with the 240 coming out slightly ahead because of power.

they both should handle about the same since its a 93 mr2 so the car should be alot more easier to drive. the SR is a stronger motor then a 3SGTE. but off the bat you can make more power with the 3S becusae it comes with larger injectors, and a bigger turbo then the SR does. ( S13-S14) so its up to how much you want to spend. but if it was me, i'd get a 93 MR2, change the taillights to the 95 ones, then change the rims and then start working on the engine. my friend has one and it looks pimp.

edit: and 37000rpm the MR2 and hte S14 weights identical. but in the 2800lb range. the S13 would be aroudn 100lbs lighter. the MR2 may look small but its heavy for its size, all that weight went to the structure for chassis ridigity. the MR2 is alot more solid then a S14, i would know hehe

Re: 95 240SX vs 93 mr2

The MR2 was set at a lower boost than its maximum potential. And you can, without much difficulty and cost, get the 3sgte to pump out near 300 horses on stock internals. Plus, handling is great.

The SR20DET is a good engine, but don't rule out the MR2.

With an sr swap...which costs what? a few thousand and then the mr2 is ahead since you can get an sw20 for less than most s14s and it already has the 3sgte installed.

The mr2 will allow higher cornering forces and higher traction from a stand-still due to it's superior drivetrain layout, but that same layout will make it harder to drive in the rain, snow and ice. When making quick manuevers to avoid accidents and road hazards the mr2 will be harder to control if you bring it to it's limits or past them. Snap oversteer is a trait that mostly affects mid-engine cars. While any front-engine rwd (or awd for that matter) can exibit snap oversteer, it is much less likely to happen.

The 240sx provides a more neutral handling and better weight distribution. 4 seats vs 2 in the mr2 is also another important thing to consider.

Both cars can be used for drifting, but the 240sx will be easier to drift and will be able to exibit a much more agressive slip-angle while still being recoverable. Both cars can also auto-x and road course race quite well.

The choice is completely based on how much you like the styling and options each car can offer.

the end does snap out but it is very easily controlled as long as u dont freak out and jerk the wheel... the suspention was inproved from 1993 to 1994.... the cornering is one of the best parts of driving an mr2... it makes it a fun ride...

but i still dont see why the sr has more mods than the mr2... the 3sgte engine has been arround since 1989 and they still use it today in the current caldinas in japan and other countries... a beams 3sge engine is also used in the is200 and the 1998 - 1999 n/a mr2 with vvt-i.... trust me.. there is a big aftermarked for that engine

Both engines have quite a nice aftermarket support and both appear to be able to handle more power than either car needs for street use or even track use. Personally over 300rwhp is too much for either of these cars unless you drive like an asshole and race people all the time.

An mr2 will need less hp to get better 1/4 and 0-60 times since with around 300rwhp you can be getting high 11s pretty easily if you know how to drive a manual. With a 240sx and an sr20 you will need a lot more power to get those numbers. A ka will be slightly easier to get good 1/4 times, but DIY's car was able to get a 10.8 and it has over 550hp if I recall correctly.

"the end does snap out but it is very easily controlled as long as u dont freak out and jerk the wheel."

It can snap out much more quickly and easier than a front-engine rwd like the 240sx...I'm not saying it's prone to do so, but you will have a lot more problems if you aren't careful...especially in snow, ice and rain.

Either one kicks ass, but I'm thinking about getting an mr2 more even though only have 2 seats is a huge pain in the ass.
