Ford Escort 96 LX rear spring problem

well my escort has 2 broken springs in the back. where can i find replacement for them. at the dealer they charge about 400-500 to fix it, is it worth it or should i do it myself. My grandpa has a garage of tools so that's no problem

Re: Ford Escort 96 LX rear spring problem

lets put it this way, I am looking into getting an upgrade in springs and lowering mine, and parts and labor only are going to be 651 plus tax. its only about 200 for the labor. so for the stock parts replacments, it should only be maybe 300 - 350

It is very common to have busted springs on these cars. I suggest you do it yourself and save a bundle of cash. Chances are the struts are also shot so replace both at the same time. Buy the parts at any auto parts store. springs are only about $60 for the pair and struts are about $50 each. All you need is a spring compressor, jack stands and a good set of wrenches. Go for it

I just replaced the two sets on my Escort, same as yours. It took two hours for each side, and I only needed to use the Spring compressing tools for taking them off. You don't need them to put the new struts and coils on. A piece of advice though, order the dust boots!! I didn't and I wasn't going to go out and buy them after taking the first assembly out. It was Friday night after every store was closed. It was hard aligning everything on the bottom when I put the assembly back in.

I ordered the Struts from RockAuto on the web and got the following:
MONROE Part #801880.
I found the Coils at the following website at a good price:

If you have any other questions let me know.
