Subaru's (EJ25s mainly) unreliable?

My dad's getting me a car soon, and I'm trying to talk him into a Legacy GT LTD. He talked to a local guy that buys cars, cleans them up, then sells them for a nice profit, and he say the 2.5L engines in Subaru's aren't very reliable. Other than that I've heard nothing but glowing reviews for all things Subaru. Have any of you guys ever had a bad experience with a Subaru, in particular one with an EJ25?
