Toyota 2000GT Progress + finished pics.. 56k beware

Just started a new project: Hasegawa Toyota 2000GT

It's a classic old school car and I'm going to build it completely stock. No lowering, and don't expect 19" wheels, c/f decal or gt wing

The quality of the kit seems pretty good. THe wheels are really detailed and same as the interior. Unfortunately there is no engine but i don't really care . There are quite a lot of chrome parts and to be honest i'm quite worried about it.

So far i'm still preparing the body shell:

I need to drill some holes for the rear bumper...etc but i don't know what i was doing and ended up drilling too many holes (the red circles)

so i've to fill up those "extra" ones using putty

there are a few "dents" on the door as well and again will be fixed by putty treatment

I want to use this kit to practice and improve my basic modelling skills so i will be building this one slowly so don't expect an update every day

You got the right idea, take your time and it will make a nice model. I didn't drill the holes in the back...I shaved the tabs off the bumperettes and attached them with white glue.

Also you'll notice that the lower front end needs to be molded in to cover the seams. The lower front cowling sweeps back pretty far under the car and it is in the way of installing the chassis. What I did was cut that piece off up to where the little vents start so the chassis can pass by.

The woodgrain decal for the interior is stubborn to lay down flat, use a solvent on it for sure.

You can see I cut the lower cowling off below the vents.

Your interior woodgrain looks better than mine!

Re: Toyota 2000GT

ok i've painted the body, and here is one more progress pic.

at the beginning i was thinking of some sort of white as it was the most popular colour for the 2000GT but later on i've changed my mind as i think a red 2000GT looks hot and the colour will suit the body shape more and i've picked "toyota red" (dupli color spray can).
i'll wait for a few days then do the clear coat. Hopefully the clear coats won't screw up my base coat. Ok no more work until this weekend

Cool I love the 2000GT. It reminds me of the Ferrari 250GTO. Can't wait to see it done.

Re: Toyota 2000GT

I did the panel lines and here is a pic after clear coats:

Pretty happy with the paint job so far... Orange peel on the roof is quite noticable but should be able to get rid of them by a bit of polishing.

After that, i'll do the window frame using bare metal foil. This will be my first time using bare metal foil to do this kind of job... hope it will turn out ok
