I started having a problem with my transmission I believe about a month ago. The D4 Light will blink, when it does... it seems like my car switches from D4 to D3 and my car will rev higher. It would come and go so it really didn't bother me to much. While the problem was happening, if I switched out of D4 and put it into any other gear... I would have 2 lights on... the D4 and whatever light I put the car into.
After about a month, my car is now going from D4 all the way to D2 or D1... and its happening more often. It's to the point where I don't want to drive it anymore. I want to take it to a transmission place... but they all give the lecture saying that I have a low rider and if they mess up my car its not their fault, so I don't want to take it anywhere. I was wondering if it was just the ECU, or do I actually need a new transmission. Any help you guys can provide will be helpful... Thanks Jeremy [email protected] AIM - ymerej21 |

Re: 1992 Accord Transmission Problem
Quote:
The problem you are experienceing is due to a bad transmission control unit. This part is housed under the carpet on the passenger side of the car. There is a metal bracket on the floor that houses the car ECM and the trans control unit. With the bracket still mounted to the floor ... it will be the unit on the right side. There was a bulletin about this years ago ... but you can no longer get any help from Honda on the replacement of this. Bad news is that it is about $500.00 from the dealer (just for the part). You can check your local junkyards to see if they have one. There are actually different ones ... depending on what model you have ... DX / LX / EX) but as long as you get one from a 1990 or 1991 Accord ... you will be okay. The only real difference in them are the shift points and those are really minor. I just replaced one in a 1990 LX with one from a 1991 EX and it works just fine. I was able to aquire the one I got for $50.00 (chances are that most places will want around the $100.00 mark) ... but still cheaper then the dealer. Click on the link below to see a picture of what you need to replace. It is number 1 in the picture (to the right of number 4). http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/...5=CONTROL+UNIT Hope this helps you out. Mark |

Re: 1992 Accord Transmission Problem
Hello, I have problem with my tranny too. My 90 Ex accord shift smoothly. However, it doesn;t really switch at the correct rpm. Sometimes it switches at very high rpm and oftenly just at right rpm. I could feel the engine is pulling at higher rpm while swtiching.
Whenever I need more power, I pressed gas hardly and I got power immediately, but the tranny switches to high gear while I was still speeding, the car will speeding for about 1-2sec and switch to normal, thus, i lost power and the car slows down. What would be my problem? My "S" is flashing all the time, is this has anything to do with my tranny problem? PLEASE HELP> |

Re: 1992 Accord Transmission Problem
add:
My tranny switches at high rpm which is about 3200-3300 rpm, while smoother switch would be around 2800-2900rpm from zero mph. Whats the correct rpm from 0mph?? |

Re: 1992 Accord Transmission Problem
just because the D4 is flashing.. DOESNT automatically mean its the transmission control unit. You will need to access the blue diagnostic connector on the passenger side kick panel area below the dash. Use a paperclip and loop the connector, turn the ignition switch to the on position and it will start flashing. Count the flashes, they will flash quickly. If there is more than one code, there will be a brief pause between the flashes. I found this site which will tell you what each code is and how to diagnose it. http://www.honda.co.uk/owner/AccordManual/. It may still be the TCU, but check it out first.
