Microsol dissolves tamiya acrylic?

Just a heads up. I painted my window trims with Tamiya Acrylic flat black (XF-1), let it dry about 2 hours, and then started decalling some complex curves next to the trim. The microsol seems to have stripped the black paint, then, through capillary action, sucked it all up under the decal. It's now visible under the decal. (White car, so black under a decal really stands out). I think I'm going to try to soak under the decal with microsol, then use a paper towel and draw out the microsol with the black paint again, taking care not to damage the soft decals.

Anybody else experienced this before?

Hmm...I've never had any thing like that happen to me, its made my decals crack, but once it dried they were all smooth again, no cracks..it was weird, something about fujimi decals, because that always happens with them

I sometimes use Future Acrylic floor wax to clear coat models. Once, I applied it about 5 hours after decaling with SMS CF decals and the decal wrinkled up. It was on the bottom of a car, so I didnt do anything about it, I just left it. About one month later, it flattened out again. The lesson I got from this is to be absolutely sure the decals are dry before clear coating. I now wait 2 days to clear coat after decaling and I have not had any problems since.

I may not have been clear in my last reply, so...
Microsol is an alcohol and acrylics are usually thinned with alcohol, so if the acrylic paint wasnt FULLY cured, the Microsol will dissolve it. Just be patient and make sure one operation is completely finished before starting the next. (Yea, sometimes it takes me more than a month to finish a model)

Conversely, I've hardly ever made one in less than a month! Or even three it seems.

Microsol and Microset are also hard on lacquers. All lacquers can be dissolved with alcohol and it can leave what look like water spots in the finish. I would think you really applied a lot of microsol and let it set to have this problem. If it was only a little you probably had thinned the paint too much before painting.

Maybe you should have waited longer, say 24 hours before applying the MicroSol? Thats my only suggestion to your problem. Its never happened to me before, and I use MicroSol and SolvaSet over Tamiya acrylics on a daily basis.

I doubt you're going to be able to remove much black paint from the decal. More than likely, the pigment has stained the decal film. Good luck, and let us know if it works.
