24 valve VR6
Hey im thinking about buying a Volkswagon Corrado VR6, and i am wondering if it would be possible to do an engine swap from the 12V to the 24V VR6. Thanks for any information on this subject.

What year Corrado? That's all that matter. Even then it can be done. I can garuntee that. It's just gonna come down to how much time do you have to make it work. But too tell you the truth you need to tell me the year of the Corrado you're planning on buying. If you're still looking it'll be easier on a late model corrado.

Yea i plan to get a 94 or 95, and i will have as much time as it takes cause i wont need it as my daily driver, it can sit in the garage till its finished. Do you think it will be a good idea? like will it be worth the money to put a new or slightly used 24V VR6 in a corrado, or should i just spend the money on additions to the stock 12V VR6?

a turbo, perhaps...
It would probably be cheaper to mod the 12v. If you could find a wrecked 24v VR6 (like the back of the car is crushed), and it is cheap, then it could be a good idea. Find out if you can just bolt the new head right on, that would be easier/cheaper, but may not be worth it. You could proably get a turbo for the price of that stuff, and it would be much more beneficial.

The time and effort spent on modifying an old VR6 is far grater then swapping the engines. I don’t know if it has been done yet, but as far as I know, the only thing you have to modify is the engine mounts. [And the ECU/wiring]

Talk to the folks at www.matrixengineering.cc They gave me a
rouge preliminary quote on doing a 24V VR6 with 6spd tranny and AWD (4 Motion package) on my 93 SLC. Now its very spendy. Myself, my engine has 150k+ original miles with no work done to the engine. Had the usual cooling issues. I am looking at having to replace the engine or have the current one rebuilt. As for the cost. They think they can get me a 24V VR6 with 6spd tranny for $4500. Plus installation. They are not certain on installation. But for a 24V/6spd/AWD swap into an MK3 golf the labor is $5500. By the way the 4motion unit is another $4500 by itself. At this point my thoughts are that I will do a 24V VR6 with 6spd swap sometime in March. They estimate it taking around 2 months. After that I will put a turbo or super charger on sometime around June or July. I am thinking at this point I will skip the AWD and just go with the 24V Turboed VR6 wtih 6 spd.
