95 transmission question

my 95 neon had started having shifting problems only when it is cold. when i first start it in the morning, if i put it in reverse it pauses before going in gear and then sort of "clunks" in gear. if i put it in drive first and go forward a few inches then put in reverse i don't have the problem. then when i start driving it doesn't want to shift into third. it'll shift out of second and i usually am coasting for a while then it will go into third. again this only happens when it is cold. if i park for a only a couple hours and start again i don't have the problem...thought it might just need a fluid and filter change...any other ideas?

A fluid/filter change does seem in order (see HERE for that).

However, you may also want to look into adjusting the atx bands while your in there as well.
