unstable.

my 91 LX 2.3's steering wheel starts to wobble slightly at 45-50 MPH. and my car feels like its unstable. anyone know what the problem is?

i just got brand new tires last week, had them balanced and 4 wheel allignment. but i was thinking it was the suspension cuz the guy i bought it from planned on gettin the 5.0 so he upgraded the suspension to "heavy duty"(whatever the fuck that means)

Check the rotors first, because it's easy to do. Just run your fingers over the rotors (make sure they're cold first!). If they're not smooth and flat like a mirror, then get them turned. This is especially true under light braking at high speeds ( i.e. 45-55 mph ).
Otherwise, visually inspect the bushings, struts, and balljoints for small cracks or signs of aging. Test these components by driving over some speed bumps at slow speeds and sharply turning the steering wheel. Listen for any abnormal or unpleasant sounds. Good suspension should respond quietly.

I just got done replacing the brake pads and rotors on my moms civic and there is no more wobble at all. And it usually happend around 40 - 55ish. Check em out, could be that simple.

Does this happen when braking or under acceleration? I would say rotors as well. Hope you dont have a bad tie rod end. Have you gone back over your lug nuts since you had the new tires put on? You may have a loose lugnut or a tire bolted on at an accidental angle, causeing it to wobble.

it happens when im just cruising along, when i accelerate it is stable, as well as when i brake.

my first thought was clutch upon reading this, but that seems pretty improbable. i'd say alignment. there are tricks to checking this yourself, involving blocks of wood, a level, white-out, and a tape measure. and similar household items.

if at all possible, support the car on the lower control arms in front and try to wiggle the suspension and steering components with your hands. try to move the tires up-and-down and side-to-side. if movement is excessive at any joint, you may need to replace bushings or balljoints or even entire arms. this is also a good way to test wheel bearings. you'll be able to tell if you support the car on the control arms and try to wiggle the tires.

im pretty damn sure its not the clutch considering its an automatic

and im also sure its not the allignment cuz i just had a 4 wheel alignment last week.

ive realized my car sucks, its slow and has no potential. what im probably going to do is get full exhaust, wheels, paint and sell it to some mexican fora few grand. by that time i'll have enough experience to get a 5.0

the mexican thing aint cool,

if your dash is shakin too maybe your drive shaft needs to be balanced or replaced. it happened to me once but my wheel wasnt shakin, but the dash was shakin alot. good excuss to buy that aluminum drive shaft.
