Could you be a hitman?

There are so many of these "could you..." threads, and i have been thinking about this for a while. On tv assasins and hitmen seem to live glorified lives with luxery, wealth, women, and safety. I know if there are hitmen out there, which there have to be at least a handful, they can't live such a comfortable life. Given the chance with the knowledge, tools, and superiors (such as a powerful drug cartel or something of the like) would you be a hitman? This is taking in to account the power you have and the money you can make. I guess you could also consider it being something like a mercinary. Would you be able to disconnect yourself enough to take a life, or more than one? I am almost afraid that i think i could, or would like the power that came with the job. Now i have never done anything CLOSE to killing anyone, but i hurt someone's feelings once (name that quote), but i think i can disconnect myself from emotions well enough i could. Now if i ever got close to the moment of truth, i doubt i could go through, but what do you think and know about yourself?

p.s. Please don't flame me, this in no way is supposed to mean i wanna kill people. This just has been on my mind, especially after watching a movie about a hitman.

Yes, I feel I could, only if it were for a cause. Like taking out a drug ring leader, crime boss, etc. But not to take out someone just to benefit someone else. Why, I am not sure. I once went hunting with my father, and I must say, I hated it. I hated knowing that I just took a living things life like that. But with the training that I recieved in the Marine Corp, I feel I could take aim, and put a round through the eye. I guess it is because of the 'brainwashing' that I recieved. But I could do that without a second thought.

I would probably not have sufficient confidence in my ability to predict the possible negative outcomes (and minimise their risks) to consider killing anyone and getting away with it as a viable option.

If I could kill someone knowing that nobody would ever suspect me,and I had no connections with either victim or paymaster, and I was truly desparate for the money offered,I might. But how would I feel afterwards?

But who is to say if its ok or not to kill someone? Someone will benefit directly from the death of a drug lord, namely another drug lord. I think i could, but i don't think i could hunt, lol. For me i am intrigued by the power, logic and smarts (not just walking up to someone and shooting them), and all that. I need to stop watching movies....

i agree. use virtual reality as a pressure buster. take your frustations out on something that cannot be harmed nor have the ability to feel. thats probably the true meaning of a video game...put yourself in situations that you wouldnt be able to be in otherwise and have fun. but this is a whole other topic...and no, i can never find it in myself to physically or emotionally hurt another human being...power or no power...money or no money.

PS...Towlie...im taking your wang wang statement and using it in my everyday conversations. from now on...everything is "off the wang wang"...

I believe I could do it . . .

I've fantasized about it . . . I KNOW beyond a shadow of a doubt that I could kill someone and be sure to get away with it. In fact, I find myself thoroughly upset when people get caught for murder . . . i just don't get it.

The only thing that might pose a problem for me is the resolution within . . . like how do you convince your conscience that it mustn't torment you with nightmares and paranoia?

I'd say more . . . but I don't want to scare anybody . . .

I could kill someone if my life or the lives of my family was threatened (or I was able to stop an act of violence that was nearby) but I wouldn't do it for money.

I am sorta like i_rebel, i almost fantasize about planning it out and getting away with it. I almost think my conciounce wouldn't be a problem as much as thinking of ways to get away with it.

It'd be interesting. Great hobby to keep your mind in shape as your grow old I'm sure. Bit of philanthropic activity if done right.

Absolutely not.

Don't know if I have too much respect for human life or if I'm just a wuss. Call it what you like, but I couldn't do it.
