Unhappy (experts needed)costly mistake, but need help ASAP

alright originaly my 94 explorer had a transmission problem. well i spent a whole week on it removing it and rebuilding it. and i wanted to have it done by the weekend so i spent literaly the whole day working on it sat from 9AM sat to 2AM sunday. well in being excited to get it up and runing. i tossed a battery in and threw on the connectors. unfortunatly in my extream tiredness and not paying attention i connected the posative to the negative and the negative to the posative. BIG MISTAKE. needless to say things started to fry. well i franticly pulled the connectors off but i had been a little to late. the alternator had already been smoking. and all the wires from the battery to various places had started on fire and broke.
so the next day i come in fresh and get workin. i rewired the burnt wires basicly they were only the ones from the battery to the starter relay and in that area. i also removed the alternator and had it checked. so i bought a new one and put that in. i also got a new battery and put that in properly, as well as changeing the spark plugs and wires while i was at it. the starter is ok and i had to replace a lot of fuses. now the engine wont turn over. the starter cranks and everything else works but it wont turn over. i checked to see if there was an arc going to the plugs and there was not. what could the problem be. the coil checked out ok. and the power is making it past the power distribution ignition fuse. all i can think of is it might be the ICM(ignition control modual) and suggestions. and if it may be this ICM has any one replaced it is it easy?
please any advice is helpfull.
thanks
-Kirt

You could have fried the computer. In later years, Ford wired a diode in series with the ECM relay so power couldn't be applied to the computer if the voltage was reversed. Guess they saw this too many times. An easy test to see of the computer is working is to turn the key on and see if the fuel pump runs for a couple of seconds. If it works then it could be the ignition module. If not, the ECM is fried or you missed one of the fuses.

i will check if the fuel pump is not working. but would the computer not allow a spark to go to the plugs. or could i have burned both that and the ICM out

If thr key was never turned on there should not be any damage to the electronics. Not going to guess what you were doing at 2AM. I would expect the keep alive memory wire that is always connected to the battery would have been protected enough.
Alternator fuseable link should have opened before too much wire damage unless the wires were weak allready from years of corrosion. Basically make sure power is still getting to the fuse distribution box.

well i know power is making it through the distribution box cause if i take off the ignition system fuse and put it back in i can hear things working when the fuse connection is made. i still cant figure out where the break in power is in the ignition system. is there any other fuses that i might not have found for the ignition. or is there any relays that could have gone.
