Exclamation Check Engine???

my check engine light came on. is it anything to worry about? i have a couple of mods, is that the reason for it? i have upper and lower intercooler pipes, greddy type-s BOV, injen intake, downpipe, no cat, apexi n1 exhaust. NO boost controller. is it something to check out or nothing major, the car rides fine.

i'm guessing its your O2 sensor, take it to a dealer or an autoparts store and see if they can check for codes... that should tell you what it is right away... good luck

I think its the lack of a cat. I put a high flow on my rs at the same time as my header and the check engine light came on. Then I put the stock cat on and off with the light.

Re: Check Engine???

There is a resistor mod you can do with the second O2 Sensor that will not give you a CEL. Not sure where the specs/how-to is though, the only link I have for it is now 404ed. Anyone have a copy of it?

try disconnecting the negative from your battery. let it sit for a min then connect it agian. if the light is still on take it to the dealership and have them run it threw the computer.

well I dont know for sure if it would work but I would seriously suggest putting your stock cat back on that was my problem I read the codes for it and it came up as insufficient EGR flow. So if you dont mind gettin under your car you should give it a shot. Also if you dont have your silencer in put that in and see what happens cuz that worked for awhile until it shot out cuz I didnt put the bolt in. Also my car was to loud and annoying with the hi flow in and I dont know if yours is or not but I have the same exhaust. So hope that helps.

Re: Check Engine???

definitly get it checked out, it could be a lot of things. i have basicly the same stuff you do and i have never had a CEL come on. i do know that when i put on the downpipe my O2 sensor was 'caked on dirty' and i had to clean it off. could be something like that...

That's only delaying the inevidable. When you disconnect the battery for a minute and reconnect it, it will reset and the light will go off. But give it a few miles of driving and it will come right back on. If the dealer around you is like the ones here in ohio, it will be 40 bucks to check whats wrong.

Re: Check Engine???

It is the one of the o2's. They are like $100 a piece. They will fuck up your air/fuel mixture alittle. The check engine light comes on for emissions. i.e. E.G.R valve o2 sensors. You could always get DSM link and clear it out.

instructions to reading trouble codes 95-98 vehicles without scan tool

1)Cycle the ignition key on-off-on-off-on within 5 seconds
2)Count the number of times the check engine light goes on and off.the number of flashes tells you the trouble code.
