Mustang searchin'

I was out today looking for a Mustang. I plan to buy one in the next month or so. I found a used car lot that had by far the nicest one I had seen yet. It was a '93, leather, fully loaded. It had never been winter driven before and had 160,000 on it. One problem though. The price tag was $11,900 Canadian. Is it just me or is that price a little absurd? I mean, I could get one a couple years older for a good 6k cheaper. What do you all think about this thing? Is the dealer charging too much?

By the way, I plan on racing this car, dropping a new engine in and doing many other things to it once I get it so that is another thing to consider. Maybe it would be better to buy a cheaper one? I was considering buy a 4 cyl, but I'm not exactly sure on what I would need to change if I were to put a new engine in (It will most likely be a stroke 351W). I will be doing all the work myself, (except some things that require more than one person) so I'm wondering if it would be worthe it to buy the 4 cyl in the long run because I'm not sure what would need to be changed.

Sorry, this is a bit longer than I wanted it to be, but what I am basicly asking is for my purpouses (racing this car while keeping it street drivable in the summer), would it be best to buy a 4 cyl, a decent v8 for a good price or a really nice one like the one I mentioned above for a fairly large sum of money? Thanks in advance for the good advice

Re: Mustang searchin'

i would definitly not buy a car with that many miles on it. look in your autotrader or autotrader.com for a good deal.

I believe that's a 160,000 kilometers, not miles. so it would be just under 100k miles.

That seems high... that price is what I see low mile like under 30,000 93 loaded GT verts and any mile nice shape 93 Cobra's go for at dealers. As far as a 4cylinder in the end it is not worth it if your gonna keep in a street car. If you go all out racing where most things will be replaced a 4cyl makes more sense. You should be able to find nice shaped high mileage 89-93 GT's for $3-5,000 american and that is what you should be looking for.
